What the real exam draws on
The Department's page names three study sources for the commercial licensing exam: the national core manual, the Pesticide Control Act and the Rules and Regulations Relating to Pesticides. This bank is the last two. Federal label and worker protection rules are on the pesticide applicator practice test.
Length and pass mark
The Department's page gives no question count and no pass mark. A mock exam here is 25 questions, our number, and ends in a score with no verdict.
- Two expiration dates to keep apart: certification runs to January 31, a license to February 28.
- Bonds step up: $20,000 per job for a license, $50,000 for certification, $100,000 for fumigation or aerial work.
- Two years is the record period for applicators and dealers; a school keeps its copy of an application record five.
Questions and answers
Is this the real Rhode Island pesticide license exam?
No. It is unofficial practice written for this site from the Pesticide Control Act and the state regulation. The real exams are given by the Department of Environmental Management, and none of their questions are here.
What is the difference between a pesticide license and certification in Rhode Island?
A commercial applicator license covers pesticides that are not restricted use or state limited use, applied on land of others. Certification, in a category, covers restricted use and state limited use pesticides, and a certified applicator needs no separate license.
How do I get a pesticide applicator license in Rhode Island?
The regulation asks for age 18, a passed written examination, proof of financial responsibility and a $30.00 fee. The University of Rhode Island's page says the license exam is taken through the Department's website and comes before any category exam.
How many credits do I need to renew a Rhode Island pesticide license?
Eight credit hours every five years for a commercial license, eight per category for commercial certification and six for private certification, under section 2.16 of the regulation. A credit hour is fifty consecutive minutes of approved training.
Is the Rhode Island pesticide exam open book?
The Department's Pesticide Safety and IPM Training page says commercial licensing exams are online and closed book, with a $30.11 fee for the online exam, and that category exams for certification are open book.
