What is left out
Law only, and each question cites its section. Fees, the site evaluation and equipment lists for sedation permits, dermal filler permits, the dentists' loan repayment program and the code of ethics the rules adopt are not asked. Statutes and rules are as they stood on the Legislative Branch's site on October 16, 2026, with the rule changes of April 1, 2026. Practice for an exam, not medical advice.
- Dentist and hygienist licenses expire December 31 of odd-numbered years; dental assistant registrations in even-numbered years (N.D.C.C. 43-28-16.2, 43-20-01.4, 43-20-13.1).
- Dentists owe 32 hours of continuing education per two-year cycle, hygienists and registered assistants 16 (N.D.A.C. 20-02-01-06, 20-04-01-08, 20-03-01-06).
- A person who is not a dentist may own no more than 49 percent of a dental practice (N.D.C.C. 43-28-25).
Questions and answers
Is there a North Dakota dental jurisprudence exam?
Yes. N.D.C.C. 43-28-10.1 requires a written examination on the laws and rules governing the practice of dentistry in the state, passed within one year of applying. The board's licensing page calls it the online Jurisprudence examination.
How many questions are on the North Dakota jurisprudence exam?
The statutes, the rules and the board's licensing page give no question count, time limit or pass mark, so this page does not guess them. A scored run here asks 25 questions and reports a score with no verdict.
Who has to take the North Dakota dental jurisprudence exam?
Applicants for a dentist license (N.D.C.C. 43-28-10.1 and 43-28-15), a dental hygienist license (43-20-01.2 and 43-20-01.3) and registration as a registered or qualified dental assistant (N.D.A.C. 20-03-01-05).
Does the North Dakota jurisprudence exam count as continuing education?
Yes. N.D.A.C. 20-02-01-06 says passing the laws and rules examination is the equivalent of two hours of ethics or jurisprudence, and the hygienist and dental assistant rules, 20-04-01-08 and 20-03-01-06, say the same.
Is this the board's exam?
No. The questions were written for this site from the public statutes and rules, never from the examination. The North Dakota State Board of Dental Examiners has not reviewed this page.
