What is left out
Law only, and each question cites its section. Fees other than the exam fee, application forms, dental corporations under SDCL 47-12, the equipment and inspection rules for sedation permits and radiation control (ARSD 44:03:01) are not asked. Statute and rules are as they stood on the Legislature's site on October 16, 2026. Practice for an exam, not medical advice.
- Licenses and registrations renew by July 1 each year, and a missed renewal is a suspension (SDCL 36-6A-52).
- Continuing education runs in five-year cycles: 100 hours for dentists, 75 for hygienists, 60 for registered dental assistants (ARSD article 20:43).
- General supervision needs a complete evaluation within the previous thirteen months (SDCL 36-6A-1).
Questions and answers
What is the passing score on the South Dakota dental jurisprudence exam?
At least 70 percent. ARSD 20:43:03:01 asks a dentist applicant to pass a written examination on the relevant administrative rules and statutes with a cut score of at least seventy percent, and 20:43:03:08 says the same for dental hygienists.
How many questions are on the South Dakota jurisprudence exam?
The statute and the rules give no question count or time limit, so this page does not guess them. A scored run here asks 25 questions and applies the 70 percent cut score, with no clock.
Who has to take the South Dakota dental jurisprudence exam?
Applicants for a dentist or dental hygienist license, whether new or already licensed in another state. SDCL 36-6A-44, 36-6A-44.2, 36-6A-47 and 36-6A-47.1 each require an examination concerning the state laws and rules relating to dentistry.
How much is the South Dakota jurisprudence exam?
ARSD 20:43:03:05 sets the jurisprudence examination fee at three hundred dollars for a dentist and one hundred thirty-five dollars for a dental hygienist. Ask the board for the fee in force when you apply.
Is this the board's exam?
No. The questions were written for this site from the public statutes and rules, never from the examination. The South Dakota State Board of Dentistry has not reviewed this page.
