How this list was compiled: Outline: the North Dakota State Board of Cosmetology's Students & Schools page (https://www.ndcosmetology.com/students-schools/) lists the NIC Practical Examination, the NIC Written (Theory) Examination and the North Dakota Law & Rules Examination; N.D. Admin. Code 32-04-01-25 gives a board examination a theoretical portion, a state laws, rules and regulations portion and a practical portion, with seventy-five percent to pass. Facts: North Dakota Century Code chapter 43-11 (https://ndlegis.gov/cencode/t43c11.pdf) and North Dakota Administrative Code title 32, chapters 32-01-02 to 32-05-01 with history lines to January 1, 2026 (https://ndlegis.gov/information/acdata/pdf/32-02-01.pdf and the other chapter files), on the Legislative Assembly's site. How it works

This unofficial North Dakota esthetician practice test asks what Century Code chapter 43-11 and the Board's rules say. It is not affiliated with the North Dakota State Board of Cosmetology, the National-Interstate Council of State Boards of Cosmetology (NIC) or its test administrator.

What the North Dakota law questions cover

Scope leads, with 27 questions: what the statute puts inside esthetics, what it moves to the advanced esthetician license, and what no licensee of the Board may do. Then come 13 on cleaning, disinfecting and blood exposure, 8 on wax, products and devices, and 12 on the licence.

  • Esthetics stops at the stratum corneum, and threading is not part of it (N.D.C.C. 43-11-01).
  • Waxing or tweezing takes a new pair of gloves, and wax a single-use applicator for each application (N.D. Admin. Code 32-02-01-11).
  • Ultraviolet light is not an acceptable form of disinfection (N.D. Admin. Code 32-01-02-01).

Questions and answers

What exams does North Dakota require for an esthetician license?

Three, as the Board's students page lists them: the NIC practical examination, the NIC written theory examination and the North Dakota Law & Rules Examination. The Board's rule asks at least seventy-five percent to pass (N.D. Admin. Code 32-04-01-25).

How many questions are on the North Dakota esthetician law exam?

Neither the Board's rule nor its pages print a question count or a time limit for the Law & Rules Examination, so the exam round of 25 here is this page's own length. NIC's theory bulletin gives 110 items in 90 minutes.

Does this North Dakota esthetician practice test cover the theory exam?

No. It is practice for the law examination. Anatomy, skin disorders, chemistry and facial procedures are on NIC's theory outline and are not asked here. This site's Washington esthetics test follows that whole outline.

Are these the real North Dakota esthetician exam questions?

No. Every question is our own, written from N.D.C.C. chapter 43-11 and N.D. Admin. Code title 32 on the Legislative Assembly's site and linked to its source. None comes from an examination.

What can an esthetician do in North Dakota?

Skin care, makeup, lash and brow services, hair removal other than threading, microdermabrasion, dermaplaning, high frequency and cosmetic peels under the strengths in N.D.C.C. 43-11-01. Microneedling, lancet extractions, advanced peels and nonablative procedures belong to the advanced esthetician license.
