How this list was compiled: Arkansas Code Title 17, Chapter 17 (the Auctioneer's Licensing Act), Sections 17-17-101 to 17-17-409, as posted by the Arkansas Auctioneers Licensing Board (https://labor.arkansas.gov/wp-content/uploads/Statutes-Feb-2025.pdf); the Rules of the Arkansas Auctioneers Licensing Board, final 2024 (https://labor.arkansas.gov/wp-content/uploads/ARKANSAS-AUCTIONEER-LICENSING-BOARD-Final-2024.pdf); and the sale by auction section of the Uniform Commercial Code as printed in the board's Study Guide for Auctioneer/Auction House Owner Exam and Licensure, February 2025 (https://labor.arkansas.gov/wp-content/uploads/Study-Guide-February-2025-update.pdf). All three were read on October 15, 2026 from the board's Laws and Rules and Licensing and Exam Info pages. Each law question names its section or rule and links to the board's copy; each math question is arithmetic on the numbers it gives. Licence: Own work. Every question, wrong choice and explanation was written for this site from the text of the Act and the board's rules, and the math questions use made-up figures. Nothing comes from the state examination, the sample questions in the board's study guide, a testing service, a prep course or an exam question pool.

What the Arkansas auctioneer exam asks
Section 17-17-301 puts ethics, reading, writing, spelling, elementary arithmetic and Arkansas law on the examination, with contracts of sale, agency, leases, auctions brokerage and the Uniform Commercial Code. The board's study guide, February 2025, adds advertising, escrow accounts and a bid calling examination after the written one.
What is left out
Spelling, the study guide's own definitions and practice notes, and bid calling rest on no statute, so they are not asked. The board publishes no question count and no time limit, and none is given here.
Where the answers come from
Sections 17-17-101 to 17-17-409 of the Arkansas Code and the board's rules, final 2024, in the copies the board posts, and the sale by auction section printed in its study guide, all read on October 15, 2026.
No auction of another's property without a prior written contract, kept at least three years after it (Section 17-17-112).
Money from the sale of another person's goods is settled within ten business days of the auction (Rule 7.6.2).
Every advertisement carries the license number, and the buyer's premium is disclosed in all advertising (Sections 17-17-310, 17-17-308).
Questions and answers
What score do you need to pass the Arkansas auctioneer exam?
70 percent or better on each of two examinations, written and oral, for an unrestricted auctioneer license. Auction house and restricted license applicants take only the written portion, with the same mark (Rule 9.5 of the Arkansas Auctioneers Licensing Board).
How do you become an auctioneer in Arkansas?
Be at least 18, apply at least 30 days before an examination with two letters of reference and a background check, pay the examination, license and recovery fund fees, and pass the written and oral examinations (Section 17-17-301, Rules 9.4, 9.5).
Do you need a license to hold an estate sale in Arkansas?
Yes, when you conduct it for someone else. Since Act 677 of 2023 an estate sale counts as an auction, and a restricted auctioneer's license covers online auctions and estate sales only (Section 17-17-103, Rule 9.6.2).
When does an Arkansas auctioneer license expire?
On June 30 of each year. Renewal needs the fee and proof of six hours of continuing education, with a 30-day grace period. After July 31 a $200 late renewal penalty applies (Sections 17-17-302, 17-17-311, Rule 12.4).
