How this list was compiled: Ohio Revised Code, Chapter 4707 (Auctioneers), sections 4707.01 to 4707.99, and section 1302.41 (sale by auction), read on October 12, 2026 on the state's code site (https://codes.ohio.gov/ohio-revised-code/chapter-4707), and Ohio Administrative Code, Chapter 901:8-2, read the same day on the same site (https://codes.ohio.gov/ohio-administrative-code/chapter-901:8-2). What the examination covers is taken from the Auctioneers Program's Questions page of the Ohio Department of Agriculture (https://agri.ohio.gov/programs/auctioneers/questions) and the pass mark from rule 901:8-2-07. Each question names its section or rule and links to it. Licence: Own work. Every question, wrong choice and explanation was written for this site from the text of the law. Nothing comes from the state examination, an auction school, a prep course or an exam question pool.
How it works
This unofficial auctioneer Ohio practice test asks 83 of our own questions on the state's auction law: licenses, bidding, contracts and trust accounts, advertising and discipline. Not affiliated with the Ohio Department of Agriculture, which gives the written examination.

What Ohio says the examination covers
The department's Auctioneers Program says anything taught at auction school may appear, along with laws that affect auctions (it names federal firearms law, motor vehicle sales and Chapter 1301 of the Revised Code), basic math and contract law. R.C. 4707.07 asks a license applicant for a general knowledge of the Revised Code's requirements for auctioneers, the auction profession and the principles of conducting an auction.
What is left out
Everything but Ohio's own auction law. Auction school material, firearms law, motor vehicle sales and math are not asked.
Where the answers come from
Revised Code Chapter 4707, section 1302.41 on sale by auction, and Administrative Code Chapter 901:8-2, all read on the state's code site on October 12, 2026.
Money from personal property goes into a client trust account within 72 hours, and to the seller within 15 days (R.C. 4707.024).
An auction is a reserve auction unless the contract and the terms explicitly say otherwise (R.C. 4707.022).
An "estate auction" advertisement lists the county of the estate and the probate court case number (R.C. 4707.22).
