How it works
Ohio's notary test is given by authorized education providers, and neither statute nor rule sets its length, time limit or passing score. This unofficial Ohio notary practice test covers the law itself: 221 questions on Revised Code Chapter 147 and the notary rules, each linked to its section. Read 18-19 September 2026.

Why the Ohio notary test has no public format
A non-attorney takes a three-hour class, then a test, from an authorized provider for $130 (O.A.C. 111:6-1-03). The law fixes no format, and O.A.C. 111:6-1-02(F) makes providers keep several tests in use. Exam mode asks 25 questions, a size this site picked, with no timer and no pass or fail. Misses pile up under Missed, and Clear my progress wipes them.
What the provider's class has to cover
Rule 111:6-1-02(C) names 22 subjects every approved class must teach, from the commission term and the seal to jurats, prohibited acts, fees and discipline. The Start from menu sorts the bank into seven subjects. Attorneys take the class but no test (R.C. 147.01(B)(4)), and renewal takes a one-hour course with no test.
Ohio caps the fee per notarial act, never per signature: up to $5 for an act that is not online, up to $30 online, plus a technology fee up to $10 per online session (R.C. 147.08).
Know what Chapter 147 leaves out: no bond, and a journal only for online acts, kept electronically (R.C. 147.65).
Learn three deadlines. Renewal education starts no earlier than twelve months before expiration (O.A.C. 111:6-1-03). Renewal filing opens three months before expiration (147.031). Report a new name or address within 30 days (147.05).
Questions and answers
How many questions are on the Ohio notary exam?
Ohio does not say. R.C. 147.021 and the education rules set course lengths and fees, but no test length, clock or passing score. A failed test may be retaken no sooner than 30 days later. A second failure means a new application and fee.
Do these sample questions come from a provider's test?
No. Nobody here has seen a provider's test, and this site has no tie to the Ohio Secretary of State or any provider. Every question links its section. No commissioned Ohio notary has reviewed the answers yet, so if a question and its section differ, trust the section.
What are the basic rules for an Ohio notary commission?
A non-attorney needs a criminal records check under six months old, the class and test, and a seal bearing the state coat of arms (R.C. 147.01, 147.04). The term is five years (147.03), with statewide jurisdiction (147.07). Online work takes a separate authorization and an Ohio resident who is in Ohio during the act (147.64).
