Maneuvers named on Virginia DMV form CSMA 19 (11/25/2017) 16
Alert, and follows directionsItem 1, basic skills: attentive, aware of surroundings and traffic conditions, following instructions well, and seeing conditions in time to finish a maneuver safely.
Backing without weavingItem 3, backing: mirrors, a look over both shoulders, brake and accelerator, a smooth straight line. The form says in capitals not to practice it on a street with traffic.
Gap and speed behind trafficItem 6, following, the form's shortest: the gap kept and the speed held behind other traffic.
Keeping to one laneItem 8, lanes: the proper lane held, traffic checked before a change, no excessive lane changes and no straddling.
Marks on this driveThe fifteen rows added for each drive, one mark an error. Form CSMA 19 itself has no score: a licensed driver checks and signs each maneuver observed.
Overtaking and passingItem 9: the proper lane while passing on a multi-lane street, distance judged, intention signaled, proper acceleration, and the horn if necessary.
Parking inside the linesItem 15, parking: driving into a parking lot and parking, with traffic checked, a signal when necessary, proper speed and the car within the lines.

Unofficial practice sheetNot the state's form, and not form CSMA 19. Rows restate what the state's own text names; how to mark them is our reading.
How this list was compiled: From four texts read on 2026-10-04. (1) Virginia Driver's Manual, publication DMV 39 (April 27, 2026), copyright Commonwealth of Virginia, Department of Motor Vehicles 2026, all rights reserved, Section 1, Testing, page 4: https://www.dmv.virginia.gov/sites/default/files/forms/dmv39.pdf. (2) DMV form CSMA 19 (11/25/2017), In-Car Maneuvers Observation Record: https://www.dmv.virginia.gov/sites/default/files/forms/csma19.pdf. (3) The DMV's own page on road skills tests, where a test is arranged with the department, not here: https://www.dmv.virginia.gov/licenses-ids/exams/road-skills-test. (4) Code of Virginia section 46.2-325: https://law.lis.virginia.gov/vacode/title46.2/chapter3/section46.2-325/. Taken from them, each in our own words and in an order of our own: the fifteen maneuvers form CSMA 19 names, which the manual says describe driving tasks you may be asked to perform on the road skills test; what the manual and the DMV page say the vehicle must have and what to bring; the waits after a failed test (manual and statute); the statute's line on parking. Ours, not the state's: the layout, the row names, what counts as one error in a row, and typing 1 for a line that is ready. None of the four prints a point value or a pass line, so these sheets print none. This is not form CSMA 19 and cannot be handed in as one; nobody at the department has seen it. Licence: own work
How it works
Unofficial practice sheets for the Virginia DMV road test, made from the state's driver's manual and its behind-the-wheel checklist, form CSMA 19, both read October 4, 2026. Not the state's form, and this page books no test.

Score the drive, then check test day
1. With The drive showing, press Print blank sheet. Pick Before the test and print that as well.
2. Ride along as the supervising driver your permit requires. Mark the paper at stops only, and speak up or take over the moment it is needed.
3. Once parked, type how many errors each of the fifteen tasks had. The drive adds itself up.
4. Ahead of test day, go down the second sheet and type 1 beside each line that is ready.
5. Next time out, begin with the task that drew the most marks.
Questions and answers
What is on the VA road test?
The manual says form CSMA 19 describes driving tasks you may be asked to perform. The form names fifteen, from posture and starting to backing, turns, a turn-about or U-turn, and parking in a lot. The first sheet has a row for each.
How many points do you need to pass the Virginia road test?
Neither the driver's manual nor form CSMA 19 prints a point value or a pass number, so these sheets count errors and draw no pass line. What counts as an error in a row is our own reading.
How long do you wait after failing?
Two days, under Va. Code 46.2-325 and the manual, and the test may be taken once per business day. After three fails, the in-vehicle part of driver education must be completed before a fourth try.
Who gives the Virginia DMV road test?
Va. Code 46.2-325 has the Department of Motor Vehicles examine every applicant for a driver's license. The manual adds that under 18 the test is part of the driver education course, and that a driver training school gives it to adults who take its course.
What parking is on the Virginia road test?
Form CSMA 19 names one parking task: driving into a parking lot and parking within the lines. Va. Code 46.2-325 says no applicant is required to park except in an adequate space between horizontal markers, not between flags or sticks.
