What the grade 5 RISE math test covers

Number and Operations in Base Ten is the largest domain, 30 to 36 percent of 50 operational items: decimals to thousandths, powers of 10, rounding, multiplying with the standard algorithm, two-digit divisors and decimal arithmetic. Number and Operations - Fractions is 28 to 34 percent: unlike denominators, multiplying fractions and mixed numbers, and dividing with unit fractions. Measurement and Data and Geometry is 18 to 22 percent, and Operations and Algebraic Thinking 16 to 20 percent.

A Utah limit on dividing decimals

Standard 5.NBT.7 keeps decimal division to a whole number divided by a decimal or a decimal divided by a whole number, and asks students to judge the size of the quotient. Standard 5.NF.7 leaves dividing a fraction by a fraction for a later grade.

Questions and answers

How many questions are on the 5th grade RISE math test?

50 operational items, by the RISE mathematics blueprint. The domain shares are targets: the test adapts, so each student's mix differs.

Is the Utah RISE test timed for 5th graders?

No. RISE has no time limit: the State Board's guide for families lists not being timed among the features of RISE assessments.

What RISE tests do 5th graders take?

Four: mathematics, English language arts, science and writing. The State Board gives RISE writing in grades 5 and 8 only.

What do RISE math scores mean in 5th grade?

The Individual Student Report gives a scale score, a proficiency level from Below Proficient to Highly Proficient, comparisons with school, district and state averages, and results by reporting category. The guide names no percent to pass.

Is there a Utah RISE practice test for 5th grade math from the state?

The Utah RISE portal offers training tests that cover a range of grades and show the online tools and question types without giving a score. The box under the questions links to them. This page is separate and unofficial.
