How this list was compiled: Outline: Utah RISE Mathematics Blueprint, grade 6 (50 operational items; minimum and maximum percent for each domain), the document Math Blueprints on the Utah RISE portal, https://utahrise.org/resources (https://utahrise.org/content/contentresources/en/Math%20Blueprints.pdf), read 2026-10-13. Each question names the standard it practices in the Utah Core State Standards for Mathematics, Middle/Junior High School Grades (6-8), grade 6, linked from the Utah State Board of Education's page Utah Mathematics Standards, https://schools.utah.gov/curr/mathematics/core, read 2026-10-13. What the grade 6 RISE math test covers
The blueprint splits 50 operational items among four domains. Expressions and Equations is 28 to 34 percent: exponents, writing and evaluating expressions, one-step equations, inequalities and dependent variables. Ratios and Proportional Relationships is 28 to 32 percent: unit rates, ratio tables, percents and unit conversions. The Number System is 18 to 22 percent: dividing fractions, decimal arithmetic, common factors and negative numbers. Geometry/Statistics and Probability is 16 to 20 percent.
Limits in Utah's grade 6 standards
Standard 6.NS.2 keeps fluent decimal division to a whole number divided by a decimal or a decimal divided by a whole number. Standard 6.EE.7 keeps equations to the forms x + a = b and ax = b with no negative numbers.
Questions and answers
How many questions are on the 6th grade RISE math test?
The RISE mathematics blueprint lists 50 operational items for grade 6. Its domain percentages are targets: the test adapts to the student, so the mix differs from one student to the next.
Is the 6th grade RISE math test timed?
No. The State Board's guide for families lists being untimed among the features of RISE assessments, along with adapting to the child's level.
What is a proficient score on the 6th grade RISE math test?
Utah reports a scale score and one of four levels. Proficient, the third, means a solid understanding of grade-level standards. The state's family guides name no percent for a level, so a percent here is practice only.
When do RISE scores come out?
The State Board's guide to RISE scores says the Individual Student Report usually arrives within three weeks of the school's testing window. A school may also post it on its parent portal.
Does Utah have a RISE practice test for 6th grade math?
The Utah RISE portal has training tests that cover a range of grades and let students try the tools and question types. They give no scores. The facts box on this page links to them.
