What grade 5 math covers on the Wisconsin Forward Exam
The state blueprint spreads 48 points over five categories. Base Ten and Fractions carry the most, 13 to 15 each: decimals to thousandths, powers of 10, multi-digit multiplying and dividing, then unlike denominators, multiplying fractions and dividing with unit fractions. Measurement and Data has 9 to 11, and volume is the part of it marked major work. Operations and Algebraic Thinking and Geometry have 4 to 6 each.
Where Wisconsin's grade 5 standards stand apart
The Wisconsin Standards for Mathematics (2021) say fifth graders need not rename a fraction in lowest terms or use the least common denominator, so 23/18 is a full answer here. Standard M.5.NBT.A.4 asks for estimates with decimals and a judgment of whether an estimate runs high or low.
Questions and answers
Is there a Wisconsin Forward Exam practice test for 5th grade math from the state?
Yes. The Department of Public Instruction posts a grade 5 mathematics practice test, online and as a PDF, on its Forward Exam practice test page, linked in the box under the questions. This page is separate and unofficial and uses none of those questions.
How many questions are on the 5th grade Forward Exam math test?
50, in two sessions of 25. Of those, 42 are scored, for 48 points, and 8 are field test questions that do not count toward the score.
Can 5th graders use a calculator on the Forward Exam?
Not in mathematics. The 2026 test design marks both grade 5 sessions as non-calculator. A calculator built into the test first appears in grade 6, in sessions 2 and 3.
What is a Meeting score in 5th grade Forward math?
From 1598 to 1640, on a scale that runs from 1400 to 1780. Developing and Approaching fall below it, and Advanced starts at 1641. A percent on this page is practice only.
Is the Wisconsin Forward Exam timed in 5th grade?
No. The department calls it an untimed test. For scheduling only, it suggests 45 minutes for each grade 5 mathematics session and says students may take more time or less.
