What the grade 8 Forward Exam asks in social studies

Geography and History carry 8 to 12 of the 40 points each, and Behavioral Sciences, Economics and Political Science carry 6 to 8. Eighth graders are tested on the middle school indicators of the Wisconsin Standards for Social Studies: map projections and population change, the audience and purpose of a source, inflation and GDP, and how rights grew over time.

The Wisconsin Constitution and Wisconsin history

The standards ask what the Wisconsin Constitution protects, so the questions use its text: the two-thirds vote that overrides a veto, the elected supreme court, and the right to fish, hunt and trap. History and geography questions use the lead rush of the 1820s and the move from wheat to dairy.

  • Each category is scored together with inquiry, so expect to read a map, a chart or a short source before you answer.
