What the NNAAP written exam covers
The 2024 content outline, read in Credentia's Georgia and Colorado handbooks on October 12, 2026, has nine areas. Basic nursing skills carry 35% of the scored questions and activities of daily living 22%, and this bank keeps those shares.
Where the answers come from
Thirty questions are checked against the federal rules every nursing facility follows, 42 CFR Part 483, and four against OSHA's bloodborne pathogens standard. The rest name the National Institute on Aging, MedlinePlus, another federal agency or Credentia's handbook.
The form of the exam
Five more questions cover the examination itself: its 70 items, the oral form, the five skills and the rule that both parts must be passed.
- The oral form swaps ten of the questions for reading comprehension items, and the handbooks say to ask for it when you register.
Questions and answers
How many questions are on the NNAAP written exam?
70 multiple-choice items, by the 2024 outline in Credentia's handbooks, read October 12, 2026. 10 are unscored pretest items, so 60 count. The oral form has 60 multiple-choice items plus 10 reading comprehension items.
Which states use the NNAAP exam?
Credentia's state pages, read October 12, 2026, name the NNAAP for Alabama, Alaska, California, Colorado, the District of Columbia, Georgia, Guam, Iowa, Maryland, North Carolina, the Northern Mariana Islands, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Washington.
Who gives the NNAAP exam?
Credentia. NCSBN's page says it no longer develops or owns the NNAAP. Credentia's North Carolina page tells people who had a Pearson VUE account to open a Credentia account, and the old data carries over.
Is this an NNAAP nurse aide practice written exam with answers?
Yes. Each question shows the right answer, a short reason and its public source. The questions are our own: the real pool is not disclosed, under 42 CFR 483.154. For state rules, see the Georgia CNA practice test.
