How this list was compiled: Outline: NJSLA-A Mathematics Blueprints, Grade 7 (New Jersey Department of Education), https://www.nj.gov/education/assessment/adaptive/mathblueprints.shtml, read 2026-10-12. Each question names the standard it practices in the 2023 New Jersey Student Learning Standards for Mathematics, Grade 7, https://www.nj.gov/education/standards/math/2023/7.shtml, read 2026-10-12. Every answer is arithmetic or algebra on the numbers in the question, worked out twice. Licence: Own work. Questions, answer choices and explanations were written for this site. Nothing is copied or reworded from an NJSLA test, an NJ ASK or PARCC test, a practice test of the state, a released item, an example printed in the standards or another practice test.
How it works
Unofficial practice for grade 7 mathematics on the New Jersey Student Learning Assessments-Adaptive (NJSLA-A), the state test that stands where NJ ASK once did. All 46 questions are our own. Not affiliated with the New Jersey Department of Education.

What the grade 7 NJSLA math test covers
New Jersey's blueprint gives each of four reporting categories a least and a most out of 46 items, and this page stays inside every range. Ratios and Proportional Relationships has 12 questions: unit rates with fractions, constants of proportionality, tax, markdowns, simple interest and percent change. The Number System has 11: operations with negative numbers, fractions and decimals. Expressions and Equations has 11: equivalent expressions, two-step equations and inequalities. Geometry and Statistics and Probability has 12: scale drawings, circles, angles, volume, sampling and probability. Each answer names its standard, such as 7.RP.A.3.
Circle answers are left in terms of π, so know the area and circumference formulas.
Questions and answers
Is there still an NJ ASK practice test for grade 7 math?
NJ ASK is no longer given. New Jersey's testing history page says PARCC assessments replaced it in grades 3 to 8 in 2014-15, and the state's grade 7 test is now the NJSLA-A. This page practices the standards that test measures.
How many questions are on the grade 7 NJSLA math test?
46 items, by New Jersey's blueprint. The test is adaptive, so each reporting category has a range: 10 to 13 items for ratios, for the number system and for expressions and equations, and 12 to 15 for geometry with statistics and probability.
How long is the NJSLA math test in grade 7?
150 minutes. The state's unit testing times page gives mathematics a first and a second session of 75 minutes each.
Where is the state's own practice NJSLA math test for grade 7?
On the New Jersey Assessments Portal: choose Practice Tests, continue as a guest and pick the grade. The state says those tests are for getting used to the platform and its tools, and are not meant for studying.
