How this list was compiled: Our own questions, written to the test objectives of MTEL Spanish, field 28, as the test information guide prints them on the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure website (https://www.mtel.nesinc.com/Content/StudyGuide/MA_SG_OBJ_28.htm and https://www.mtel.nesinc.com/TestView.aspx?f=HTML_FRAG/MA028_TestPage.html, read 2026-10-12): 100 multiple-choice questions and 2 open-response items, one written and one spoken, in 4 hours; four multiple-choice subareas (Listening Comprehension, objectives 0001 to 0003, 25 to 27 questions, 18% of the score; Reading Comprehension, 0004 to 0006, 26 to 28 questions, 19%; Linguistics and Language Structures, 0007 to 0009, 25 to 27 questions, 18%; Cultural Perspectives, Comparisons, and Connections, 0010 to 0012, 20 to 22 questions, 15%) and two open-response subareas, Written Expression and Oral Expression, 15% each. This bank holds 10, 11, 10 and 9 questions for the four multiple-choice subareas. The 21 messages and texts of the first two subareas are our own and each answer is read in the text itself; the real listening items are played as sound, and here the script is printed. Every fact in the other two subareas was read on 2026-10-12 in the Wikipedia article named under its question. Licence: Questions, choices and explanations are original work of this site.

Four subareas, by weight
Listening comprehension, reading comprehension, linguistics and language structures, and cultural perspectives carry 18%, 19%, 18% and 15% of the score. The bank holds 10, 11, 10 and 9 questions for them.
Listening, as scripts to read
The real listening items are heard through a headset. Here each message is printed: a voicemail, a station announcement, a radio bulletin. The questions ask what the objectives ask: the facts, what can be inferred, and the speaker's purpose.
Where the answers come from
Comprehension answers are read in our own Spanish texts. Grammar, language-learning and culture facts were read in the article named under each question.
The written and the spoken open-response items, 15% of the score each, are not practiced here.
Explanations of the Spanish texts are in Spanish; those on grammar and culture are in English.
Questions and answers
How many questions are on the Spanish MTEL?
100 multiple-choice questions and 2 open-response assignments, one written and one spoken, in 4 hours of testing time. By the test objectives, the four multiple-choice subareas bring 25 to 27, 26 to 28, 25 to 27 and 20 to 22 questions.
What is the passing score on the MTEL Spanish test?
The MTEL site gives a qualifying score of 240. Multiple-choice questions are 70% of the score and the written and oral expression items 15% each, so a number right here carries no verdict.
Is there an MTEL Spanish study guide?
The official materials are on the MTEL site: the test information guide for field 28, with the overview, the test objectives and sample questions, and a practice test. These 40 questions are our own and name the objective each was written to.
Is this MTEL practice test for Spanish like the real test?
In outline, yes: the same four multiple-choice subareas, by weight, with questions of our own. In booking, no: the MTEL site offers Spanish by appointment during testing windows only, at specific test centers in Massachusetts.
