Read the full guide

Four domains in the order of the test

Subtest I (145) asks 15 multiple-choice questions on general linguistics and 25 on the linguistics of Spanish; Subtest II (146) asks 20 on literary and cultural texts and 20 on cultural analysis (test structure read October 9, 2026). The bank follows with 10, 16, 12 and 12.

Reading in Spanish

Ten more questions follow the reading half of Subtest III (147): a short passage of our own in Spanish, then a question in Spanish on what it says, implies or takes for granted.

What is not here

Subtest III also tests listening through a headset and takes spoken and written answers, which this page cannot mark. Eight prompts of our own, seven to write and one to say aloud, print from under the questions.

  • Subtests I and II can be taken with an online proctor. Subtest III is given at test centers only.

Questions and answers

Is this CSET Spanish practice test the real exam?

No. The 60 questions were written here from the published content specifications and from public sources. None is taken or reworded from the real subtests, their sample questions or the official practice tests, and a result here does not forecast your score.

How many questions are on the CSET Spanish test?

Subtest I has 40 multiple-choice and 3 constructed-response questions, Subtest II has 40 and 1, and Subtest III has 30 and 6, by the test page. Each subtest is registered for as a session of its own.

How long is each CSET Spanish subtest?

Subtest I is 1 hour and 45 minutes, Subtest II is 1 hour and 30 minutes and Subtest III is 2 hours and 15 minutes. Fifteen more minutes are provided for a nondisclosure agreement and a tutorial.

What is the passing score for CSET Spanish?

220 on each subtest. Multiple-choice questions carry 70% of the score on Subtest I, 80% on Subtest II and 50% on Subtest III. The rest comes from constructed-response answers, so no pass or fail is shown here.

Which CSET Spanish subtests count toward a Bilingual Authorization?

Spanish Subtest III (147), World Languages Subtest IV (250) and Spanish Subtest V (258), by the test page. Subtests I, II and III are used toward the Single Subject Teaching Credential in Spanish, and this page follows those three.
