How this list was compiled: Our own questions, written to the test objectives of MTEL Chemistry, field 67, as the test information guide prints them on the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure website (https://www.mtel.nesinc.com/Content/StudyGuide/MA_SG_OBJ_67.htm and https://www.mtel.nesinc.com/TestView.aspx?f=HTML_FRAG/MA067_TestPage.html, read 2026-10-12): 100 multiple-choice questions and 2 open-response items in 4 hours; five multiple-choice subareas (Matter and Its Interactions: Periodic Properties, objectives 0001 and 0002, 12% of the score; Matter and Its Interactions: Chemical Structure and Reactions, 0003 to 0007, 22%; Matter and Its Interactions: Substances, Mixtures, and Solutions, 0008 and 0009, 12%; Motion and Stability: Forces and Interactions, 0010 to 0012, 15%; Energy in Chemical Systems, 0013 to 0016, 19%) and the open-response subarea, 20%. This bank holds 6, 11, 6, 8 and 9 questions for the five multiple-choice subareas. Every calculation uses a constant or a formula printed on the sheet the test shows on screen (https://www.mtel.nesinc.com/Content/Docs/MA067_ConstantsFormulas.pdf, read 2026-10-12) and atomic masses as the test's periodic table prints them (https://docs.nesinc.com/common/PeriodicTable_2021.pdf, read 2026-10-12), and was worked out a second time from the numbers in the question; every other fact was read on 2026-10-12 in the Wikipedia article named under its question. How it works
This chemistry MTEL practice test has 40 questions of our own on Chemistry (67), weighted like its five multiple-choice subareas. It is unofficial: this site is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education or Pearson.

Five subareas, by weight
Periodic properties carry 12% of the score; chemical structure and reactions 22%; substances, mixtures and solutions 12%; forces and interactions, which takes in gases and equilibrium, 15%; energy in chemical systems 19%. The bank holds 6, 11, 6, 8 and 9 questions for them.
The sheet and the periodic table
The problems here use the rounded atomic masses of the test's on-screen periodic table, such as 35.5 for chlorine, and R = 0.0821 L·atm/(mol·K) from its constants and formulas sheet. Every result was worked twice.
Structures, trends and reactions
The other questions rest on a stated fact: the shape of SF₄, why atoms shrink across a period, what a burning splint shows. Each names the article where the statement was read.
The sheet prints solubility rules and the Nernst and Henderson–Hasselbalch equations, so practice choosing the right one, not recalling it.
The two open-response items, one on key concepts and one on science and engineering practices, are written answers and are not practiced here.
Questions and answers
How many questions are on the MTEL Chemistry test?
100 multiple-choice questions and 2 open-response assignments, with 4 hours of testing time in an appointment of 4 hours and 15 minutes. The MTEL site adds that some questions may not count toward the score.
What is the passing score for the Chemistry MTEL?
The MTEL site gives a qualifying score of 240. The multiple-choice subareas make up 80% of the score and the open-response items 20%, so a count of right answers here carries no verdict.
Do you get a periodic table on the MTEL Chemistry test?
Yes. The test page lists a periodic table, a sheet of constants and formulas and a scientific calculator, all provided on screen, and links to the table and the sheet for review.
Is there an MTEL Chemistry study guide?
The official materials are on the MTEL site: the test information guide for field 67, with the overview, the test objectives and sample questions, and a practice test. Each question on this page names the objective it was written to.
What does an MTEL Chemistry practice test need to cover?
The 16 multiple-choice objectives: atomic structure, periodic trends, naming and structure, bonding, properties and changes, reaction types, equations and titration, mass relationships, solutions, gases and phase changes, forces between particles, equilibrium, reaction rates, thermodynamics, energy in bonds and reactions, and electrochemistry.
