How this list was compiled: Our own questions, written to the framework of the GACE Chemistry (6–12) assessment, test code 712, on the GACE website of the Georgia Professional Standards Commission and Evaluation Systems, Pearson (https://www.gace.es.pearson.com/studyguide/framework/712 and https://www.gace.es.pearson.com/test/712, read 2026-10-15): four testlets, 100 selected-response questions in all: 214 Atomic Structures and Properties (about 20 questions, 45 minutes, two objectives); 215 Multi-Atomic Structures and Properties (about 30, 60 minutes, three objectives); 216 Chemical Reactions (about 30, 60 minutes, three objectives); 217 Energy Changes (about 20, 45 minutes, two objectives); the objectives of a testlet carry equal weight. This bank holds 8, 12, 12 and 8, four questions for each of the ten objectives. Every fact was read on 2026-10-15 on the page named under its question: Wikipedia and, for the Avogadro constant, the National Institute of Standards and Technology; every answer that is arithmetic was worked a second time. Licence: Questions, choices and explanations are original work of this site.

How it works

This GACE chemistry study guide is 40 practice questions of our own, spread 8, 12, 12 and 8 like the four testlets of Chemistry (6–12), test 712. Unofficial: neither the Georgia Professional Standards Commission nor Pearson is connected with it.

The four testlets

Atomic Structures and Properties (214) and Energy Changes (217) have about 20 questions each; Multi-Atomic Structures and Properties (215) and Chemical Reactions (216) have about 30 each, by the framework at gace.es.pearson.com read October 15, 2026.

What each one asks

214: atomic structure, and patterns in the properties of the elements. 215: how compounds form, mixtures and their separation, states of matter. 216: chemical reactions, mass and particle number relationships, kinetics and equilibrium. 217: energy changes in physical and chemical processes, and their thermodynamics.

The clock

The two short testlets allow 45 minutes and the two long ones 60, about two minutes a question. A timed round here keeps that pace: 40 questions in 84 minutes.

  • Each testlet weights its objectives equally, so kinetics and equilibrium count as much as balancing equations.
  • About half of the 40 questions here need a calculation, so keep a calculator and a periodic table at hand.

Questions and answers

Is there an official GACE Chemistry study guide?

Yes. The GACE website has a study guide for Chemistry (6–12), test code 712, organized by the same four testlets. Our questions are written to its framework; its sample questions are not used here in any form.

How many questions are on the GACE Chemistry test?

100 selected-response questions in four testlets. The four clocks total 3 hours 30 minutes. Every testing session has 15 more minutes for a tutorial and a nondisclosure agreement.

Can you use a calculator on the GACE Chemistry test?

The GACE page for Chemistry (6–12) lists a tutorial on how to use the on-screen scientific calculator among its reference materials, with a periodic table and a sheet of constants and formulas.

What is a passing score on GACE Chemistry?

Testlet results must together produce an assessment-level score of 220 or higher, on the 100 to 300 scale, and each of the four testlets has a floor, a minimum score, to meet.
