Fifteen standards in three categories

The state's assessment guide sorts fifteen grade 7 performance expectations into three reporting categories, and each expectation has three questions here. Investigate: heating experiments, air masses and weather, and the causes of rising global temperatures. Evaluate: data on chemical reactions, body systems, and changes in ecosystems. Reason Scientifically: particle models, conservation of atoms, the water cycle, climate patterns, photosynthesis and respiration, food as matter and energy, ecosystem services, reproduction, and natural selection.

What the real test adds

LEAP anchors most questions in a described event with a map, table or graph, and some answers are two-part or written. These questions stand alone, so use them to check the ideas, then try the state's practice test for the format.

  • Reason Scientifically holds nine of the fifteen standards. Missed answers with the same code, such as 7-MS-LS1-6, point to one idea to review.

Questions and answers

Is 7th grade science tested on LEAP?

Yes. Grade 7 takes its own LEAP science test in 2026-2027 and 2027-2028. From 2028-2029 the grade 7 test draws on grades 5 through 7. Grades 5, 6 and 8 take no LEAP science test from 2027-2028 on.

How long is the grade 7 LEAP science test?

It has three sessions of 65 minutes each, 195 minutes in all, and every session is timed. The 58 points come from five item sets, one task and twelve standalone items.

Is this the LEAP 2025 grade 7 science practice test from the state?

No. This page is unofficial, and all 45 questions are our own. The Louisiana Department of Education lists a LEAP 2025 grade 7 science practice test answer key on its practice tests page; the button under the questions goes there.

What do Investigate, Evaluate and Reason Scientifically mean on LEAP?

They are the three reporting categories. Investigate is asking questions and planning investigations. Evaluate is analyzing data, using mathematics and arguing from evidence. Reason Scientifically is using models, building explanations and designing solutions.
