All thirteen grade 5 standards
Louisiana's grade 5 science has thirteen performance expectations, and each has at least three questions here: properties of materials, mixing substances, conservation of matter, particles too small to see, gravity, energy in food, plant growth, matter in ecosystems, the sun among the stars, shadows and night-sky patterns, Earth's four systems, where Earth's water is, and protecting resources.
How the real test asks
On LEAP, most questions hang on a described event, with a table, graph or picture, and some are two-part or written answers. Here each question stands alone, so check the ideas on this page, then meet the format on the state's practice test.
Under each answer is the code of its standard, such as 5-PS1-2. Missed answers that share a code point to one idea to review.
Questions and answers
Is 5th grade science still tested on LEAP?
Yes, in 2026-2027, when every grade from 3 to 8 takes its own LEAP science test. That is grade 5's last year. From 2027-2028 grades 3, 5, 6 and 8 take none, and from 2028-2029 the grade 7 test covers grades 5 to 7.
How long is the LEAP science test in grade 5?
Three timed sessions of 65 minutes, 195 minutes in all, for 58 points: five item sets, one task and twelve standalone items. The 2027 window for computer-based tests runs from April 1 to May 12.
Is this the LEAP 2025 science grade 5 practice test from the state?
No. This page is unofficial, and all 42 questions are our own. The Louisiana Department of Education keeps its LEAP 2025 science practice tests and answer keys, grade 5 among them, on its practice tests page; the button under the questions goes there.
What are the reporting categories on LEAP science?
Three. Investigate is asking questions and planning investigations. Evaluate is reading data, using mathematics and arguing from evidence. Reason Scientifically is using models, building explanations and designing solutions. The task's extended response counts in the overall score only.
