How this list was compiled: Our own questions, written to the competency list of the Job Ready Credential Blueprint for Automotive Technician-Core (code 4409, version 01, copyright 2022) that NOCTI publishes at https://www.nocti.org/wp-content/uploads/Blueprints/JRAutoTechCore4409.pdf , read 2026-10-13: a written assessment of 168 questions in 3 hours over nine areas (Engine Repair 5%; Automatic Transmission and Transaxle 5%; Manual Drive Train and Axles 10%; Suspension and Steering 14%; Brakes 13%; Electrical and Electronic Systems 16%; Heating and Air Conditioning 7%; Engine Performance 15%; Customer Relations and Shop Procedures 15%), plus a performance assessment of six jobs. This bank holds 53 in those proportions. The Teacher assessment, Automotive Technician (code 5362), prints the same nine areas and weights. Every rule and definition was read on 2026-10-13 on the public page named under its question: Wikipedia, federal rules at ecfr.gov (40 CFR 82.34, 40 CFR 279.22, 49 CFR 565.15) and OSHA standards on osha.gov. Every price, hour and reading is made up for the drill, and each computed answer is arithmetic that was worked twice. Licence: Questions, choices and explanations are original work of this site.

How the nine areas are weighted

Electrical and Electronic Systems is 16% of the written assessment. Engine Performance and Customer Relations and Shop Procedures are 15% each, Suspension and Steering 14%, Brakes 13%, Manual Drive Train and Axles 10%, Heating and Air Conditioning 7% and Engine Repair and Automatic Transmission and Transaxle 5% each.

A little over a minute apiece

The real test allows a little over a minute a question. Fifty-three questions at that rate come to 57 minutes. The blueprint sets no pass mark.

Left to the shop

Six performance jobs are scored in the shop and are not practiced here.

  • Camber is the lean of the wheel seen from the front. Toe is where the fronts of the wheels point. Caster helps the steering self-center.
  • A repair order subtotal is labor hours times the labor rate, plus parts. Tax is added where it applies.
