How this list was compiled: Our own questions, written to the competency list of the Job Ready Credential Blueprint for Industrial Maintenance Mechanics (code 2074, version 01) that NOCTI publishes at https://www.nocti.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/JRIndMaintMech2074.pdf , read 2026-10-09: a written assessment of 169 questions in 3 hours over eight areas (Machinery and Equipment 16%; Tools and Safety 14%; Electronics and Electrical Principles 13%; Hydraulics and Pneumatics 14%; Motors and Motor Controls 14%; Mechanism Drives 10%; Industrial Robotics Systems 8%; Blueprints and Schematics 11%), plus a performance assessment of four jobs. This bank holds 50 in those proportions. Every rule and definition was read on the public page named under its question, each opened 2026-10-09: OSHA standards in 29 CFR 1910 and 1926, the OSHA Technical Manual chapter on industrial robots, the Navy training texts Basic Machines (NAVEDTRA 14037) and Navy Electricity and Electronics Training Series Module 1 (NAVEDTRA 14173) in the copies at archive.org, and Wikipedia. Every load, speed and voltage is made up for the drill, and each computed answer is arithmetic that is worked out again. Licence: Questions, choices and explanations are original work of this site. The Navy training texts are works of the United States Navy approved for public release, and no question or example is copied from them.

How it works

This free NOCTI maintenance practice test has 50 questions of our own, sorted by the eight areas of the Job Ready Industrial Maintenance Mechanics blueprint, code 2074. It is unofficial and not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by NOCTI.

Eight areas, in the blueprint's shares

Machinery and Equipment is 16% of the written assessment. Tools and Safety, Hydraulics and Pneumatics, and Motors and Motor Controls are 14% each. Electronics and Electrical Principles is 13%, Blueprints and Schematics 11%, Mechanism Drives 10% and Industrial Robotics Systems 8%.

Timed like the real one

Exam mode runs all 50 questions in 53 minutes, the pace of the real written assessment. The blueprint prints no pass mark, so the result is a score with no verdict.

What is not practiced here

Reading hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical symbols and real prints needs drawings, and this bank has none. The hands-on jobs are left to the shop: a pneumatic circuit, a gear drive, an electrical control fault and reading an industrial blueprint, which is 40% of the performance score.

  • Safety answers cite the OSHA paragraph, such as 1910.147 for lockout and 1910.215 for grinders. Open the rule under a missed question.

Questions and answers

Which NOCTI maintenance test does this practice test follow?

Industrial Maintenance Mechanics, code 2074. NOCTI also publishes Building Trades Maintenance (4012), a different blueprint with areas such as carpentry, masonry and painting. Ask your teacher which code your program gives.

How many questions are on the NOCTI Industrial Maintenance Mechanics test?

The blueprint lists 169 written questions with an administration time of 3 hours, given in one, two or three sessions. The four performance jobs take another 3 hours.

Where do the answers to these maintenance questions come from?

OSHA standards in 29 CFR 1910 and 1926, the OSHA Technical Manual chapter on industrial robots, the Navy texts Basic Machines and NEETS Module 1, and Wikipedia for components. Each source is linked under its question.

Where is the NOCTI Industrial Maintenance Mechanics blueprint?

It is a free PDF on nocti.org/credentials/blueprints. It gives the competencies, the weight of each area and ten sample questions. Those samples are not used here: every question on this page was written for it.
