How it works
Fifth graders in Georgia sit three Milestones End-of-Grade tests: English language arts, mathematics and, for the first time, science. This unofficial practice follows each blueprint with questions written for this page. Not affiliated with the Georgia Department of Education.
Read the full guide
What the grade 5 blueprints stress
Mathematics gives 38 of its 58 points to Numerical Reasoning, shared among decimals and place value, fractions, and multi-digit multiplication and division. Science is about 42% life science (classification, traits, cells and microorganisms), 35% physical science (changes in matter, electricity and magnetism) and 23% earth science. English language arts includes an extended writing task worth 8 of its 60 points, which a page like this cannot score.
Where each science fact comes from
Under every science answer is the Georgia standard it practices and, for most, the public page the fact was read on, such as a National Park Service, NASA or Energy Information Administration page. Math answers were worked out twice.
Grade 5 mathematics allows no calculator. Do the fraction and decimal questions on paper.
In science, say whether a change made a new substance before you call it chemical. Melting, tearing and dissolving do not.
Questions and answers
How long is the 5th grade Georgia Milestones test?
