What the written test asks
The EIPA Diagnostic Center says the test evaluates an interpreter's understanding of information critical to working with students in school. Its standards run to 14 sections, from student development and the IEP to Deaf culture and technology.
Where the answers come from
Every question was written from the EIPA Written Test Content and Knowledge Standards (2023), which the center says the real questions were developed from. Law questions also cite the IDEA regulations, 34 CFR Part 300. English is a test domain, but the standards have no English section, so the topics here number eight.
Timing
Exam mode asks 88 questions in two hours: half the real length at the real pace, with the real pass mark.
The center calls the standards minimum competencies that do not replace formal learning.
Questions and answers
Is there a free EIPA practice test?
Yes. This EIPA practice test is free with no sign-up. It covers the written test only, and each answer names the standard or federal rule it was checked against.
How many questions are on the EIPA written test?
There are 176 questions, taken online with an approved proctor. Candidates get up to four hours, and the EIPA Diagnostic Center says the average candidate finishes in two and a half.
What is a passing score on the EIPA written test?
A score of 75% or above. The written test is pass or fail, and the center says candidates learn the result at the test site.
Do you have to pass the EIPA written test before the performance test?
No. The center says there is no required order and no prerequisite, and an interpreter does not have to take both tests. Your state may set its own requirement, so check its rule.
Are these real EIPA written test questions?
No. Every question is our own, written from the published standards, and none is taken from the real test. A score here predicts no result.
