How this list was compiled: Our own questions on the law the Wisconsin Dentistry Examining Board's examination on statutes and rules covers. Wis. Stat. 447.04 (1) (a) 5. and (2) (a) 5., read on 2026-10-16, require an examination administered by the examining board on the statutes and rules relating to dentistry or dental hygiene, and DE 2.04 calls it a jurisprudence examination. The Department of Safety and Professional Services' licensure pages (https://dsps.wi.gov/a-z-professions-list/dentist/licensure-by-examination/ and https://dsps.wi.gov/a-z-professions-list/dental-hygienist/licensure-by-examination/, opened 2026-10-16) name the Wisconsin Statutes and Rules Examination, say it is taken online, is open book and is not timed, that dentists need a passing score of 85%, and list what it is taken from: for dentists DE chapters 2, 3, 5, 6, 9, 11 and 12 and Wisconsin Statutes chapters 252, 440, 447 and 961; for dental hygienists DE 1, 2, 3, 5, 7 and 13, SPS 2 and chapters 440 and 447. The pages give no question count and no weighting, so the six topics here are this site's own sorting. Every fact was read on 2026-10-16 on the Wisconsin Legislature's site (https://docs.legis.wisconsin.gov): Wisconsin Statutes chapters 447, 440, 252 and 961 as published October 1, 2026, and Wisconsin Administrative Code chapters DE 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12 and 13 and SPS 2, each in the Register printing its page carries (July 2025 No. 835 for most; December 2025 No. 840 for DE 5; November 2024 No. 827 for DE 9 and SPS 2). Each question names its section and links to the text. Licence: Questions, choices and explanations are original work of this site, written from the public text of the Wisconsin statutes and administrative code. Nothing is taken from the board's examination, a prep company or a review book.
How it works
An unofficial Wisconsin dental jurisprudence practice test: 134 of our own questions on Wisconsin Statutes chapter 447 and the DE rules. The Wisconsin Dentistry Examining Board gives the real Statutes and Rules Examination and is not affiliated with this page.
Read the full guide
What is left out
Law only. Rule chapters DE 10 and DE 14 to 17 are not asked, because the department's topic lists leave them out. The statutes are read as published October 1, 2026. Practice for an exam, not medical advice.
Dentists owe 30 credit hours every two years, at least 25 of them clinical; dental hygienists owe 12 (Wis. Stat. 447.056, 447.055).
Patient health care records are kept at least 10 years after the date of the last entry (DE 8.03).
An unlicensed person may perform a delegated remediable procedure only while the dentist is on the premises (Wis. Stat. 447.065).
Questions and answers
Is the Wisconsin dental jurisprudence exam open book?
Yes. The Department of Safety and Professional Services calls it Wisconsin's open-book Statutes and Administrative Code Examination. It is taken online, it is not timed, and an applicant may leave and return within three months.
What score do you need to pass the Wisconsin dental jurisprudence exam?
A passing score of 85% is required, according to the department's licensure page for dentists. The page gives no question count, so a mock run here asks 25 questions and marks 85% as the pass line.
What does the Wisconsin dental jurisprudence exam cover?
For dentists the department lists DE chapters 2, 3, 5, 6, 9, 11 and 12 and Wisconsin Statutes chapters 252, 440, 447 and 961. For dental hygienists it lists DE 1, 2, 3, 5, 7 and 13, SPS 2 and chapters 440 and 447.
Who has to take the Wisconsin dental jurisprudence exam?
Applicants for a dentist, dental hygienist or dental therapist license and for a compact privilege: Wis. Stat. 447.04 requires an examination administered by the examining board on the statutes and rules. DE 2.04 asks it of endorsement applicants too.
Is this the board's examination?
No. The questions were written for this site from the public statutes and rules, never from the examination. The Wisconsin Dentistry Examining Board has not reviewed this page.
