What is left out
Law only. Fees, the sedation and anesthesia permit rules, the Dentist and Dental Hygienist Compact and the board's investigation procedure are not asked. Statute and rules are as they stood on the state's Ohio Laws site on October 16, 2026. Practice for an exam, not medical advice.
- A dentist owes thirty hours of continuing education every two years; a dental hygienist owes twenty (ORC 4715.141, 4715.25).
- One dentist may supervise at most four practicing hygienists and at most two expanded function dental auxiliaries at a time (ORC 4715.23, 4715.64).
- A first opioid prescription for acute pain is capped at seven days for adults and five for minors (OAC 4715-6-02).
Questions and answers
Is the Ohio dental jurisprudence exam open book?
Yes. The board's Dentist licensing page calls it an open book exam over the Ohio Dental Practice Act, which it describes as Ohio Revised Code 4715 and Ohio Administrative Code 4715.
What score do you need to pass the Ohio dental jurisprudence exam?
75% or higher, the board's page says, and it emails applicants who need to retake the exam. A scored run on this page uses the same 75% mark.
How many questions are on the Ohio dental jurisprudence exam?
The board's Dentist licensing page gives no count and no time limit. It links a Jurisprudence Exam Questions file and an Answer Sheet there, beside the Dental Practice Act.
Who has to take the Ohio jurisprudence exam?
Every applicant for a license to practice dentistry. ORC 4715.10(C)(4) requires a written jurisprudence examination given by the board, and ORC 4715.03(E)(2) limits it to the statutes and administrative rules governing dentistry in Ohio.
Is this the board's exam?
No. The questions were written for this site from the public statutes and rules, never from the board's examination or its question file. The Ohio State Dental Board has not reviewed this page.
