How it works

What is left out
Law only, and each question cites its section. The anesthesia article (W. Va. Code 30-4A), the dental laboratory article (30-4B), fees, mobile dental facilities and the expanded duties rule, 5 CSR 13, which was under amendment in 2026, are not asked. Practice for an exam, not medical advice.
- Renewal information and the fee are due on or before February 1 each year (5 CSR 1, section 5-1-6).
- Dentists owe 35 hours of continuing education every two years and dental hygienists 20 (5 CSR 11, section 5-11-3).
- A patient's death or serious injury from dental treatment is reported to the board within 72 hours (W. Va. Code 30-4-19).
Questions and answers
Is there a West Virginia dental jurisprudence exam?
Yes, under another name. The board's application rule, 5 CSR 9, calls it the West Virginia Dental Law Examination and says each applicant shall successfully complete it.
How many questions are on the West Virginia Dental Law Examination?
The board's rules and website give no question count, time limit or pass mark, so this page does not guess them. A scored run here asks 25 questions and reports a score with no verdict.
Who has to take the West Virginia Dental Law Examination?
Each applicant for a dental or dental hygiene license, and for a dental intern, resident or teaching permit, under 5 CSR 9. For reinstating an expired license the board may require it.
What should I study for the West Virginia dental law exam?
The board's Laws and Rules page lists what governs practice: the dental practice act, W. Va. Code 30-4, and the board's rule series in Title 5 of the Code of State Rules, among them applications, continuing education and advertising.
Is this the board's exam?
No. The questions were written for this site from the public code and rules, never from the examination. The West Virginia Board of Dentistry has not reviewed this page.
