Read the full guide

What the exam covers

The RMA exam has 210 questions: 65 on general medical assisting (31%), 30 administrative (14%) and 115 clinical (55%), by AMT's Competencies and Examination Specifications, copyright 2026, read October 9, 2026. This bank holds 31, 14 and 55.

Timing

AMT allows 2 hours, and the clock does not stop for a break. Exam mode asks 70 questions in 40 minutes, the same pace.

Where the answers come from

These RMA practice test questions name the public page or regulation each fact was read in: the National Cancer Institute, MedlinePlus, the CDC, CMS and the Code of Federal Regulations among them.

  • At the real pace there is about half a minute for each question, so do not stall on a hard one.
  • AMT allows no calculator, so work the dose questions by hand.

Questions and answers

Is this the AMT free online practice test?

It is free and online, but it is not from AMT. AMT offers its own RMA practice exam on its learning site. The 100 questions here are our own, written from the public outline, and none is taken from an AMT exam.

Is this an RMA medical assistant practice test or a CMA one?

RMA, the medical assistant credential of American Medical Technologists. The CMA (AAMA) is a separate exam from another organization, with its own outline and its own practice exam on this site.

What score passes the RMA exam?

A scaled score of 70 or more, on a scale of 0 to 100, by the AMT Candidate Handbook of April 2026. It is not a percent of questions right, so a result here does not forecast it.

Is this RMA practice test free with answers?

Yes. There is no charge and no sign-up, and every question shows the right answer with a short reason and the source it was read in.

How many times can you take the RMA exam?

Four in all: AMT's handbook allows three more attempts after a first failure, each with a retesting fee and the whole exam again. A failing score report marks the weak areas, which is where RMA test prep should start.
