How it works

This free BLS practice test has 80 questions of our own for healthcare providers, on the topics of the BLS Provider Course. It is unofficial and not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by the American Heart Association.

Read the full guide

What it covers

The bank follows the topics in the Association's 2025 BLS Provider Course FAQ, read October 7, 2026. It holds 12 questions on the Chain of Survival and assessment, 13 on adult CPR, 13 on children and infants, 15 on breaths and ventilation, 11 on the AED, 8 on team CPR and 8 on choking relief.

Exam mode

The Association's FAQ gives no question count, so exam mode asks 25 of ours at its pass mark. A card comes only from a course with hands-on skills testing.

  • Provider-only steps here: the 10-second pulse check, bag-mask ventilation, and 15:2 for two rescuers with a child or infant.

Questions and answers

Is this an American Heart Association BLS practice test?

No. It is unofficial. The questions are our own; none is taken from or reworded from the course exam, the provider manual or a skills checklist.

What score do you need to pass the BLS exam?

At least 84%, by the Association's 2025 BLS Provider Course FAQ (as of June 16, 2026). Students must also pass the Adult CPR and AED Skills Test and the Infant CPR Skills Test.

Is the BLS exam open book?

The FAQ calls it open resource: students may use the provider manual, their own notes and the guidelines. They may not talk with other students or the Instructor during the exam.

Is a BLS CPR practice test different from a CPR practice test?

Yes. BLS is the course for healthcare professionals and trained first responders, so these questions add the pulse check, bag-mask ventilation, two-rescuer ratios and team CPR. The CPR practice test is for lay rescuers.

Which guidelines does this AHA BLS practice test follow?

The 2025 American Heart Association Guidelines for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care, published October 22, 2025. Each question names its source and section, such as Part 7 for adult basic life support.
