How it works
This free CPR practice test has 67 questions of our own for lay rescuers: adult, child and infant CPR, AED use and choking. It is unofficial and not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by the American Heart Association.

What it covers
The questions follow the topic list of the Association's Heartsaver CPR AED course, read October 7, 2026. The bank holds 16 on recognizing an emergency, heart attack and stroke, 14 on adult CPR, 11 on children and infants, 9 on the AED, 10 on choking and 7 on opioid emergencies and drowning.
Where the answers come from
Each answer was read in the 2025 American Heart Association Guidelines for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care, published October 22, 2025, or on a public page of the Association. The explanation names the source and section.
A quiz is not a course
A course completion card comes only from a course with hands-on practice and a skills test.
- The 2025 guidelines give a choking adult cycles of 5 back blows, then 5 abdominal thrusts.
- Two fingers are out for infant compressions: the 2025 guidelines use the heel of one hand or two thumbs.
Questions and answers
Is this a CPR practice test from the American Heart Association?
No. It is unofficial. The questions are our own; none is taken from or reworded from a course exam or workbook.
Is this a CPR and AED practice test?
Yes. Nine questions are on using an AED, from attaching the pads to resuming CPR, and the adult, child and infant questions cover compressions and breaths.
Can I use this to practice for a CPR written test?
Yes, as study. The Association's topic list marks the CPR AED topics as needing a skills test, and its public pages give no pass mark for a written test, so ask your Training Center what your class requires.
How many compressions and breaths are in one cycle of CPR?
30 compressions, then 2 breaths, for a lay rescuer giving CPR with breaths to an adult, a child or an infant (Part 7, section 8.4, and the 2025 pediatric diagram for lay rescuers).
