How it works

What the PA school bus recertification test is

67 Pa. Code 71.6 gives a 25-question knowledge examination to every applicant for an S endorsement and, every 4 years, to a holder. Section 71.4(b) adds a skills evaluation on the same cycle. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation gives both.

A PA S endorsement practice test for the state side

The bank is Pennsylvania law: Chapter 71 on tests and courses, Title 75 on signals, loading zones, railroad crossings and bus equipment. No question is in the federal bank.

What it leaves out

Section 71.6 takes the Department's questions from the Pennsylvania School Bus Driver's Manual. No question here is copied from that manual, and none is about the physical examination.

  • Start from narrows the bank to recertification and courses, signals and loading zones, railroad crossings, or bus equipment.
  • Missed brings back the questions answered wrong, each with its section.
  • Section 71.4(b)(2): a driver who fails one portion of the skills evaluation may retake only that portion on another day.

Questions and answers

Is this the official Pennsylvania school bus test?

No. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation gives the knowledge examination, and this is an unofficial practice bank. Its questions are written from regulation and statute text, and none is copied from the Pennsylvania School Bus Driver's Manual or a Department test.

How many questions are on the Pennsylvania school bus knowledge test?

67 Pa. Code 71.6 sets 25 questions taken from the most recent edition of the Pennsylvania School Bus Driver's Manual, with eighty percent answered correctly as the passing grade.

How often is a Pennsylvania school bus driver recertified?

Every 4 years. Section 71.6 repeats the knowledge examination, section 71.4(b) the skills evaluation and section 71.5(d) a 10-hour review course on that cycle.

What is the S endorsement in Pennsylvania?

Section 71.2 defines it as an endorsement added to a commercial driver's license that authorizes the driver to operate a school bus. This bank asks the Pennsylvania side only; the national subjects are in our CDL school bus endorsement practice test.

Where do the answers come from?

Each explanation names its section: 67 Pa. Code 71.2 to 71.6, or 75 Pa.C.S. 1509, 3342, 3345, 3345.1, 4551, 4552 or 4553, as read on October 4, 2026.
