How this list was compiled: Our own questions, written to the competency list of the Job Ready Credential Blueprint for Carpentry (code 4317, version 01, copyright 2026) that NOCTI publishes at https://www.nocti.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/JRCarp4317.pdf , read 2026-10-12: a written assessment of 148 questions in 2 hours and 30 minutes over nine areas (Safety 12%; Tools and Accessories 10%; Blueprint Reading and Material Estimation Skills 11%; Foundations, Forms, and Concrete 8%; Rough Framing 16%; Exterior Finish 11%; Interior Finish 12%; Carpentry-Related Mathematics 13%; Weatherization Techniques 7%), plus a performance assessment of seven jobs. This bank holds 50 in those proportions. The Teacher assessment for Carpentry (code 5465) prints the same nine areas and weights. Every rule and definition was read on 2026-10-12 on the public page named under its question: OSHA construction standards in 29 CFR 1926 on osha.gov, US Army FM 5-426, Carpentry (1995, the copy at archive.org) and Wikipedia. Every length, area and count is made up for the drill, and each computed answer is arithmetic that was worked twice. Licence: Questions, choices and explanations are original work of this site. FM 5-426 is a work of the United States Army approved for public release, and no question or example is copied from it.

Nine areas, in the blueprint's shares

Rough Framing is 16% of the written assessment. Carpentry-Related Mathematics is 13%, Safety and Interior Finish 12% each, Blueprint Reading and Material Estimation Skills and Exterior Finish 11% each, Tools and Accessories 10%, Foundations, Forms, and Concrete 8% and Weatherization Techniques 7%.

Timed like the real one

Exam mode runs all 50 questions in 51 minutes, the pace of the real written assessment. The blueprint prints no pass mark, so the result is a score with no verdict.

What is not practiced here

The seven performance jobs are left to the shop: tool and material identification, a square layout, a starting course for vinyl siding, a sole plate layout, a rafter layout, a stairway stringer and an interior frame.

  • Safety answers cite the OSHA paragraph, such as 1926.250 for stacked lumber and 1926.304 for saws. Open the rule under a missed question.
  • Board feet: thickness in inches times width in inches times length in feet, divided by 12.

Questions and answers

How many questions are on the NOCTI Carpentry test?

The blueprint lists 148 written questions with an administration time of 2 hours and 30 minutes, given in one, two or three sessions. The seven performance jobs take another 2 hours and 45 minutes.

Is this also a NOCTI Teacher assessment practice test for carpentry?

Yes. The Teacher assessment for Carpentry, code 5465, prints the same nine written areas with the same weights and 148 questions, so one practice test serves both. Teacher tests are given at a NOCTI-approved Area Test Center.

Where is the NOCTI Carpentry blueprint?

It is a free PDF on nocti.org/credentials/blueprints. It gives the competencies, the weight of each area and ten sample questions. Those samples are not used here: every question on this page was written for it.
