What Nebraska asks a medication aide to know

The Department says a Medication Aide-40 hour passes a 40-hour course and a state exam, and knows the 10 competencies and the basic routes. The competencies are in section 71-6725 of the Medication Aide Act and in 172 NAC 96; the routes are in 172 NAC 95.

Where the answers come from

Eighteen questions name a section of the Act and 33 a section of 172 NAC 95 or 96, both effective September 24, 2022. One names the Department's requirements page.

Where Nebraska differs

A medication aide may give a PRN dose or use a gastrostomy tube only with written direction and a licensed health care professional's safety determination. Intravenous medication is never allowed.

  • Nebraska's five rights end with the right time. Documenting is a separate competency, not a sixth right.
