How it works
This unofficial Nebraska esthetician practice test asks what Nebraska's own regulations say on the NIC national theory outline. It is not affiliated with the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, the National-Interstate Council of State Boards of Cosmetology (NIC) or the test administrator.

What Nebraska's written exam covers
NIC's bulletin for the written examination, effective September 1, 2025, weights Scientific Concepts at 55 percent and Skin Care and Services at 45 percent.
How the 50 questions are split
Twenty-four questions sit under Scientific Concepts (infection control and safety, from 172 NAC 34) and 16 under Skin Care and Services; ten more cover licence law.
- Ultraviolet light, isopropyl alcohol and hydrogen peroxide are not acceptable disinfection methods (172 NAC 34-014.08).
- Wax leaves the machine on a clean single-use applicator and is never re-melted for another client (172 NAC 34-016).
- Esthetics is practiced upon the skin or epidermis and does not include injectables or lasers (172 NAC 36-002.02).
Questions and answers
How many questions are on the Nebraska esthetician exam?
NIC's bulletin gives 110 items, 100 of them scored, in 90 minutes. Nebraska's regulation asks for a scaled score of at least 75 (172 NAC 36-003.01), which is not a percent.
Does Nebraska have a practical exam for estheticians?
No hands-on one. The Department's examination page says applicants for an initial license take the NIC written examination and that there is no hands-on practical exam.
Does this Nebraska esthetician practice test cover the whole written exam?
No. NIC's outline has no state law part, and its anatomy, skin disorder and chemistry lines are not asked here, because no Nebraska text states them. This site's Washington esthetics test follows the whole NIC outline.
Are these the real Nebraska esthetician exam questions?
No. Every question is our own, written from 172 NAC 34 and 36 and Nebraska's statutes, each linked under its answer. None comes from the examination, the bulletin's sample questions or the Department's jurisprudence examination.
How many training hours does a Nebraska esthetician license take?
A program of at least 600 hours, by Neb. Rev. Stat. 38-1062 and 172 NAC 36-003.01. Licenses expire on September 30 of each even-numbered year, and renewal takes 8 hours of continuing education (172 NAC 36-009).
