How the subtests are scored 10 lines, made to print

How the sections count

What the program publishes about scoring, in our words. Unofficial; not a scoring guide of the real test.

The score

  • Two sections, one score On each subtest the 40 multiple-choice questions carry 70% of the score and the 3 short constructed responses carry 30%.
  • The scale Raw scores are converted to a 100 to 300 scale, and 220 is the minimum passing score.
  • One sitting A passing score has to be earned at a single administration; sections cannot be combined across sittings.
  • Ten years A passed subtest need not be taken again if the score is used toward a credential in the ten years after the test date.
  • Handwritten answers Subtests II and III have at least one assignment that lets you handwrite an answer and scan it.

What scorers look at in a written answer

  • Purpose How far the answer does what the assignment asks.
  • Subject matter knowledge Whether the subject knowledge is accurate and is applied to the task.
  • Support Whether the supporting evidence is fitting and of good quality.
  • Depth and breadth of understanding A fourth characteristic, named for some assignments only.
  • Each written answer is scored by two or more qualified California educators.

Three subtests, six domains

Subtest I (172): 25 multiple-choice questions on plant and soil science, 15 on ornamental horticulture. Subtest II (173): 25 on animal science, 15 on environmental science and natural resource management. Subtest III (174): 20 on agricultural business and economics, 20 on agricultural systems technology. Exam mode draws 40.

One subtest at a time

Each subtest is two topics in the Start from menu, named Subtest I, II or III. Take those two, one after the other, to study only the subtest you have booked.

Short written answers

Every real subtest adds three short constructed responses. Seven prompts of our own print from under the questions.

Questions and answers

Is this agriculture CSET practice test official?

No. The 48 questions on this page are our own, written from the subtest descriptions for test codes 172, 173 and 174. Nothing is taken or reworded from the program's sample questions or practice tests, and nothing here forecasts a result.

How many questions are on the CSET Agriculture test?

Each of the three subtests has 40 multiple-choice and 3 constructed-response questions and lasts 1 hour 45 minutes. All three in a single session run 5 hours 15 minutes.

What is a passing score on CSET Agriculture?

A scaled score of 220 on each subtest, on a scale from 100 to 300. Multiple choice makes up 70% of each subtest score and the three short written answers make up 30%.

What is on CSET Agriculture Subtest 3?

Subtest III (174) covers agricultural business and economics and agricultural systems technology, 20 multiple-choice questions each: markets, marketing, records and leadership, then safety, shop fabrication, construction, power equipment, land measurement and irrigation.
