Six areas, in the outline's proportions
The bank follows the California JAM Content Outline, updated May 9, 2024: definitions 3 questions, the Board 3, licensure and examination 24, patient care management 24, discipline and unlawful practice 23, consumer advocacy 3.
A study guide in the explanations
Used as a California jurisprudence physical therapy study guide, each explanation gives the rule in a sentence, names its section and links to it: statutes on the Legislature's site, regulations in a public copy of title 16.
What has no question yet
The Board's electromyography certification rules, fee amounts and the rehabilitation program are on the outline but not in this bank, so read those sections in the Board's own law guide.
- The outline's largest section is grounds for discipline, with 6 to 7 of the 50 questions; documentation and disciplinary proceedings have 5 to 6 each.
- Many answers are a number of days, visits, hours or dollars, so read every choice to the end.
Questions and answers
Is the California Law Exam for physical therapy still given?
Under a new name. The Physical Therapy Board of California replaced the California Law Exam with the CAL-JAM, the California Jurisprudence Assessment Module, on July 1, 2024. It is taken online through the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy.
Is this the real California physical therapy law exam?
No. It is unofficial practice written from California's statutes and regulations. The Physical Therapy Board of California and the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy did not write or review this page, and none of the module's questions appear here.
Do physical therapist assistants take the same California law exam?
Yes. The Federation's California JAM page says every applicant for a new California license must pass the module, and Section 2636 requires the law examination in both license categories. Questions here cover assistants and aides as well as therapists.
Does the CAL-JAM count toward license renewal?
Yes. The Board says licensees may complete the CAL-JAM to cover the two hours of ethics, laws and regulations required each cycle by rule 1399.93. The Federation's page says credit may be claimed once per cycle.
