How it works
This unofficial RCFE practice test covers California's rules for residential care facilities for the elderly. Every question comes from a Title 22 regulation or a Health and Safety Code section read on October 4, 2026.

What the questions cover
The Start from menu has six parts: admission agreements and records, the administrator and the certificate, staff and night supervision, resident rights and cash, reports to the licensing agency, and buildings and storage. Each answer links to its section.
What is left out
This RCFE administrator practice test is law only, and only part of the law. It has nothing on dementia care, hospice, health conditions or how medication is given. The Department's exam was not seen, so no question repeats it.
- Reporting questions turn on two things: who is told, and how soon.
- Night staffing changes at 16 residents, at 101 and with each further 100.
- Wrong answers go to Missed until you answer them right.
Questions and answers
Is this RCFE practice test from the state?
No. It is unofficial practice written from California regulations and statutes. The California Department of Social Services did not write or review this page, and no question comes from the Department's exam or from a training vendor.
How many questions are on the real RCFE administrator exam?
Health and Safety Code section 1569.616, read October 4, 2026, says the department shall ensure the test consists of at least 100 questions. The section states no passing score, and this page prints none.
Is the RCFE administrator exam open book?
Section 1569.616 says the test allows an applicant to have access to the California Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly Act and related regulations during the test. Check the Department's current instructions before your test date.
How long is an RCFE administrator certificate valid?
Two years. Title 22 section 87406 says certificates are valid for a period of two years, and section 87407 ties renewal to at least forty hours of continuing education in each period.
Does this bank cover all of Title 22 for RCFEs?
No. It covers 25 sections on six subjects and leaves out care topics such as dementia, hospice and health conditions. It is practice reading, not legal advice and not a training course.
