What the civics SOL practice test covers

The state blueprint sorts 40 scored items into three reporting categories. American Constitutional Government has 13 to 15: the founding documents, the three branches, Virginia's General Assembly and governor, local government and the courts. Citizenship and Civic Life and The Political Process has 11 to 13: rights, duties, voting, campaigns, the media and the Electoral College. Economic Decisions has 13 to 15: scarcity, types of economies, business, banks, taxes and personal finance.

Where each answer was read

Each answer names its standard, such as CE.3a, and its source: the Constitution of the United States at the National Archives, the Constitution of Virginia, the state's instructional guide for the course, the Virginia Department of Elections or the Federal Reserve.

  • About a third of the scored items are economics, so do not study government alone.
