How this list was compiled: Our own questions, written to the six competencies of Subject Exam II, Mathematics (902), in the exam framework of TExES Core Subjects EC–6 (391), Section 3 of the preparation manual on the Texas Educator Certification Examination Program website, https://www.tx.nesinc.com/Content/StudyGuide/TX_SG_obj_391.htm (copyright Texas Education Agency), read 2026-10-12: 40 selected-response questions in 1 hour 10 minutes, with no weights given among the competencies. This bank holds 50: 8 on mathematics instruction, 11 on number, 9 on algebra, 10 on geometry and measurement, 7 on probability and statistics and 5 on mathematical processes. Every number in a question is made up for the question, and each computed answer and each named wrong value was worked out a second time (2026-10-12). Thirty-seven questions rest on a standard of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Mathematics, Kindergarten to Grade 7, 19 Texas Administrative Code Chapter 111 (Legal Information Institute copies, opened 2026-10-12); five rest on the framework's own wording, four on three practice guides of the Institute of Education Sciences and four on three Wikipedia articles, each named and linked under the question (opened 2026-10-12). Length and timing

The Mathematics subject exam asks 40 selected-response questions in 1 hour 10 minutes. Exam mode does the same with 40 of the 50 questions here.

Six competencies

Mathematics Instruction, Number Concepts and Operations, Patterns and Algebra, Geometry and Measurement, Probability and Statistics, and Mathematical Processes. The framework gives no weights among them; this bank holds 8, 11, 9, 10, 7 and 5.

Worked answers

Each computed answer shows its working, and often the slip behind a wrong choice. Most questions name the Texas standard they practice, from Kindergarten to Grade 7.

  • Competency 005 reaches past Grade 6: compound probability, geometric probability and the normal curve each have a question here.

Questions and answers

Is this EC-6 math practice test free?

Yes. All 50 questions are free in the browser, with no account. You can print a question sheet, with the answer key on its own page.

Can you retake only the math part of Core Subjects EC-6?

The preparation manual says a candidate who passed every other subject exam may retake a single one. Taken alone, a subject exam costs $58 on the exam's page today.

What score do you need on the EC-6 math subject exam?

A scaled 240 on each subject exam, by the exam's page. The real exam may include questions that do not count, so this page shows a count of right answers and no pass or fail.

Does this math EC-6 practice test use real TExES questions?

No. Every question and every number in it was made up for this page, and each computed answer was worked out a second time. The manual's sample questions were not used.
