How this list was compiled: Our own questions, written in German to the Test at a Glance and the content topics of the ETS Study Companion for Praxis German: World Language (5183) (https://www.ets.org/pdfs/praxis/5183.pdf, read 2026-10-11; test page https://praxis.ets.org/test/german-world-language-5183.html). The real test asks 75 selected-response questions: 30 on interpretive listening, 30 on interpretive reading, each with embedded linguistic content, and 15 on cultural knowledge; Section 2, Reading with Cultural Knowledge, is 39 questions in 50 minutes. The bank holds 24 reading questions on short passages of our own, whose answers are read in the passage, 21 questions on linguistic content and 14 on cultural knowledge. How it works

Practice prep for the German Praxis test: 59 questions of our own, written in German, on the reading, grammar and culture content of German: World Language (5183). It is unofficial and not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by ETS.

Read the full guide

How the bank follows the test

ETS lists 75 selected-response questions in its Study Companion, read October 11, 2026: 30 on listening, 30 on reading and 15 on culture. Here 24 questions sit on short passages written for this page, 21 test grammar and usage, and 14 test culture.

Exam mode

Exam mode draws 39 questions against a 50-minute clock, the size of Section 2, Reading with Cultural Knowledge.

Left out

Section 1 is recorded audio, Section 3 asks for three written answers and Section 4 for three spoken ones. A quiz without sound cannot practice those, so this page stays with reading.

  • ETS names the grammar it tests: strong and weak verbs, modal verbs, word order, the subjunctive, the passive and two-way prepositions.
  • Written answers on the real test are typed with a built-in character toolbar for characters such as ä, ö, ü and ß.

Questions and answers

Is this German Praxis practice test the real exam?

No. It is unofficial practice. The 59 questions were written for this page from the topic list ETS publishes for test 5183, never from a real or sample question, and a result here says nothing about a real score.

How many questions are on the German Praxis test?

75 selected-response and 6 constructed-response tasks in about 3 hours. Listening has 36 questions in 50 minutes and reading 39 in 50; three writing tasks take 50 minutes and three speaking tasks 15.

What is a passing score on the German Praxis?

ETS does not set one. Each state or licensing agency sets its own qualifying score, so check yours before you register. This page counts your right answers and gives no pass or fail.

Is there a German Praxis II study guide?

Yes, from the test's owner. The free ETS Study Companion for test 5183 lists the content topics, the grammar points and the culture subjects. This page is practice on those topics, not a guide.

What level of German does the Praxis test expect?

Advanced Low on the ACTFL proficiency guidelines, in every section, by the Study Companion. ETS designed the test for people prepared to teach German in grades K to 12.
