The three Core tests

Core Academic Skills for Educators is three tests, by the Study Companions read October 13, 2026: Reading (5713), 85 minutes; Writing (5723), 40 minutes of questions and two 30-minute essays; Mathematics (5733), 90 minutes.

Find your weaker subject

The result is broken down by subject, so one sitting shows which of the three tests needs the most work.

Timing

Exam mode asks all 48 questions in 68 minutes, the pace of the three real tests taken together. The two essays are not here.

  • Every reading question here is answered from its passage alone. ETS says the same of the real test: no question requires outside knowledge.
  • The real mathematics test gives five choices on its single-answer questions and an on-screen four-function calculator. Here every question has four choices.

Questions and answers

Is there a Praxis Core practice test PDF?

Yes. This page opens on a sheet of all 48 questions. Print it, with the answer key if you tick that box, and choose Save as PDF in the print window to keep the file.

Is this Praxis Core practice test the real exam?

No. All 48 questions and their passages were written for this site from the content topics ETS publishes for tests 5713, 5723 and 5733. None repeats or rewords a real or sample question, and a result here does not forecast a score.

How many questions are on the Praxis Core?

56 in reading, 56 in mathematics and 40 selected-response questions in writing, plus two essays. ETS says each test may contain some questions that do not count toward your score.

Can I take all three Praxis Core tests at once?

Yes. ETS offers a combined test, code 5752, that lets you schedule and take all three Core subtests in the same session. Reading (5713), Writing (5723) and Mathematics (5733) can also be taken one at a time.

What is a passing score on the Praxis Core?

ETS sets none. Passing scores vary by state, and each of the three tests has its own, so check the requirement of the state or program you are applying to. This page gives the number right only.
