How this list was compiled: Our own questions, written to Part Two: Mathematics (field 244) of the NYSTCE Multi-Subject: Secondary Teachers (Grade 7–Grade 12) (241/244/245) Assessment Design and Framework, May 2018 (https://www.nystce.nesinc.com/content/docs/NY_fld241_244_245_objs.pdf, read 2026-10-12): Number and Quantity 5 selected-response items, Algebra and Functions 20, Geometry and Statistics 15. The bank holds the same 5, 20 and 15. Every answer is mathematics worked from what the question prints, and each was worked out a second time on 2026-10-12. Parts One and Two

Part One (241) is literacy and English language arts. Part Two (244) is mathematics: number, algebra, functions, geometry and statistics. Each real part has 40 selected-response questions and one written response, which this page does not mark. Exam mode gives 60 minutes for Part One and 75 for Part Two, the framework's figures.

Part Three

All four Multi-Subject tests share Part Three: Arts and Sciences (245), so a pass counts for each of them. Practice it in the third set of the CST Multi-Subject practice test, which follows the same Part Three framework.

  • Part Two of the real test puts a scientific calculator on screen, so keep one beside you for the mathematics set.

Questions and answers

What is on this NYS Multi-Subject 7-12 CST practice test?

Part One: 17 questions on knowledge of literacy and language arts, 17 on teaching foundational literacy skills and 6 on teaching English language arts. Part Two: 5 on number and quantity, 20 on algebra and functions, 15 on geometry and statistics.

What score do you need to pass the Multi-Subject 7-12 CST?

The test's page gives 520 for each part, and all three parts must be passed to qualify for the certificate. A scaled score is not a count of right answers, so results here carry no pass verdict.

How much does the written response count on the 7-12 test?

By the framework of May 2018, 30% of the Part One score and 20% of the Part Two score. It is a long written response built on analyzing several samples of student-based evidence. Part Three has none.
