What the exam covers
The questions follow the NCMOA Detailed Test Plan (effective January 2024), read October 11, 2026. Of 125 scored questions, 15 are scheduling, 18 patient reception and registration, 38 medical office administration, 20 insurance, billing and coding, and 34 law and ethics. This bank holds 6, 7, 15, 8 and 14.
Timing
Exam mode asks all 50 questions in 60 minutes, the pace of the real exam.
Where the answers come from
Each answer names the public page it was read in: the HealthCare.gov glossary, Medicare.gov, the HIPAA pages of HHS, federal regulations, IRS Publication 583 and the USPS Domestic Mail Manual among them.
- Medical office administration and law and ethics together are 72 of the 125 scored questions, so give those two topics the most time.
Questions and answers
Is this NCCT's own MOA practice test?
No. NCCT offers a practice exam of its own among its exam prep materials. These 50 questions are ours, written from the public test plan, and none comes from an NCCT exam or product.
What score passes the NCCT medical office assistant exam?
575 or more on NCCT's scale of 200 to 720, by its Candidate Handbook revised January 2026. The scale lets different forms of the exam be compared, so a count of questions right here does not forecast it.
Does the NCCT MOA exam include coding?
Yes. The test plan asks candidates to recognize and tell apart CPT, ICD and HCPCS codes and the kinds of commercial and government insurance plans, in a category of 20 of the 125 scored questions.
How often is NCCT certification renewed?
Every year. By the handbook, recertification means a fee and continuing education contact hours each year, and a certification stops being valid when the yearly requirements are missed for five years in a row.
