What this practice test covers

The Start from menu has seven parts: who needs a license, the examination and renewal, contracts and deposits, the Guaranty Fund, advertising and prohibited acts, discipline and penalties, and the Commission itself. Every answer names its section of Title 8.

Where the text comes from

Each section was read on the Maryland General Assembly's site, mgaleg.maryland.gov. The Commission's regulations (COMAR 09.08) and the door-to-door sales law were not read, so nothing here asks about them. The State's own text is the one that counts.

  • Choose Contracts, deposits and sales rules in the Start from menu to drill what a contract must contain.
  • Many answers are a dollar amount or a number of days, so read every choice.
  • Wrong answers go to Missed until you answer them right.

Questions and answers

Is this MHIC practice test from the Commission?

No. It is unofficial practice written from the statute. The Maryland Home Improvement Commission did not write or review this page, and none of the state examination's questions appear here.

What does this practice exam ask about?

Only the law in Title 8: licenses and exemptions, the examination and renewal, what a home improvement contract must contain, the one-third deposit limit, the Guaranty Fund, prohibited acts, hearings and penalties.

What does the Commission say about its examination?

Its examination page, read on October 4, 2026, gives 55 questions for contractors and 35 for salespersons, taken by computer in two hours, with a minimum of 70% correct. Check that page for current details.

Does it cover both contractors and salespersons?

Yes. Title 8 governs both licenses, and the questions cover both. The rules written for salespersons sit mostly under Contracts, deposits and sales rules in the Start from menu.

Which source do the questions come from?

The Annotated Code of Maryland, Business Regulation Article, Title 8, sections 8-101 to 8-623, read on mgaleg.maryland.gov on October 4, 2026. Each answer shows its section.
