How this list was compiled: Kansas Statutes Annotated 75-7b01 to 75-7b23 (the private detective licensing act), each section read on October 16, 2026 on the Kansas Office of Revisor of Statutes site (https://www.ksrevisor.gov/statutes/chapters/ch75/075_007b_0001.html), and Kansas Administrative Regulations 16-1-7, 16-2-1a and 16-3-1 to 16-6-3, read the same day in the Secretary of State's authenticated copy (https://rules.ks.gov/). The topics follow the list of provisions on the instruction sheet of the written examination, which the Kansas Attorney General attaches to the Private Detective Initial Application (https://www.ag.ks.gov/divisions/civil/licensing-inspections/private-detective-licensing). Each question names its section and links to it. Licence: Own work. Every question, wrong choice and explanation was written for this site from the text of the statutes and regulations. Nothing comes from the Attorney General's examination forms, a training class or a prep publisher.
How it works
This unofficial Kansas private investigator license practice test asks what the state's written examination covers: 78 of our own questions on the private detective licensing act and its regulations. Kansas calls the license a private detective license. Not affiliated with the Kansas Attorney General.

What the Kansas examination covers
The instruction sheet of Examination 1 in the Private Detective Initial Application lists the act (K.S.A. 75-7b01 and following) and K.A.R. 16-1-7 and 16-2-1 through 16-6-3. The four topics here follow that list.
How the real examination works
The form has five true or false, five fill in the blank and ten multiple choice questions. Every question here has four choices.
What is left out
The sheet also lists K.S.A. 21-6302(d)(3), a paragraph that is no longer in that statute, so it is not asked.
No contingent fees: a detective may not be paid a share of what is recovered (K.S.A. 75-7b08).
The only badge allowed is the firearm permit badge, which reads "licensed private detective" (K.S.A. 75-7b08, 75-7b17).
Bond, liability insurance or cash deposit: each is $100,000 or more (K.S.A. 75-7b11).
Questions and answers
Is there an exam for a Kansas private investigator license?

What happens if you fail the Kansas private detective exam?
