How it works
This unofficial practice bank holds 96 of the 100 civics questions from the 2008 naturalization test, in the Spanish translation USCIS publishes. Pick an answer and the explanation shows every response USCIS accepts, plus the English wording the officer uses. The text was checked against the USCIS files on September 18, 2026. Most applicants still take the real test in English.

Who can take the civics test in Spanish
USCIS gives the civics test in English unless an exception applies. Two groups are exempt from the English requirement and may answer in their own language: applicants who are 50 or older when they file and have been permanent residents for 20 years, and applicants 55 or older with 15 years. They must bring an interpreter who is fluent in both languages. Applicants 65 or older with 20 years study only the 20 starred questions. A medical exception exists through Form N-648. The USCIS page Exceptions and Accommodations has the full rules.
2008 test or 2025 test: your filing date decides
If you filed Form N-400 before October 20, 2025, the officer uses the 2008 test: up to 10 questions from the list of 100, and 6 right answers pass. File on or after that date and you get the 2025 test: up to 20 questions from a list of 128, with 12 right to pass. As of September 18, 2026, USCIS lists a Spanish translation only for the 2008 questions, so this page covers that list. The English citizenship practice test carries both versions.
How this Spanish bank was built
Question wording and accepted answers are copied from the USCIS Spanish list. The wrong choices and explanations are ours. Four questions are left out since the answer depends on where you live. Six answers name office holders or numbers that can change, and each shows the date it was checked. The second Lista de preguntas entry opens 18 of the 20 starred questions for 65/20 applicants. Under the question, the Empezar con menu drills one section, and Falladas, in Más opciones, holds wrong answers until you get them right. Imprimir is on the score card, and Borrar mi progreso, which erases what this browser keeps, is in Más opciones. USCIS words a few questions differently in its two Spanish documents, and an interpreter may phrase them a third way, so learn the idea behind each answer.
- Cover the choices and say the answer aloud first: the interview is spoken.
- Write down your four local answers: one of your U.S. senators, your U.S. representative, your governor and your state capital. USCIS points to senate.gov, house.gov and usa.gov/states-and-territories.
- Check the office-holder answers on the USCIS test updates page the week of your interview. The officer wants the person serving on that day.
- If you will be tested in English, read the English line in each explanation aloud. It ties the meaning you know in Spanish to the words you will hear.
- Where a question asks for two or three answers, pick the shortest on the accepted list and learn only those.
Questions and answers
Can you take the citizenship test in Spanish?
Only if you qualify for an exception. USCIS says applicants who meet the 50/20 or 55/15 rule are exempt from the English requirement, still take the civics test, may take it in their native language and must bring an interpreter. The 65/20 group gets the shorter list in the language they choose. Everyone else answers in English.
Is this the real US citizenship test in Spanish?
The questions and accepted answers are the ones USCIS publishes in Spanish for the 2008 civics test. The multiple-choice format is not: at the interview an officer asks the questions out loud and you answer in your own words. This is not a government website, and nothing here is legal advice.
Is there a Spanish version of the 128-question 2025 test?
Not on the USCIS study pages as of September 18, 2026. The Spanish study page links the 128 questions in English only, while the 2008 questions come as a Spanish document, a 65/20 sheet, flash cards and audio.
How many answers do I need right, and what happens if I fail?
On the 2008 test the officer asks up to 10 questions and stops once you have 6 right. Modo de examen, under the question, uses the same numbers: 10 questions and a 60 percent pass mark. Nothing is marked until you finish. USCIS gives two chances per application. If you fail civics at the first interview, you are retested on that part only, between 60 and 90 days later.
Is this the test for becoming a citizen of Spain?
No. A Spanish citizenship test can mean two things. This page is the United States naturalization civics test, written in Spanish. Spain has its own nationality exam, called the CCSE, which this bank does not cover.
