How this list was compiled: Written only from Title 5 (Amusements and Sports), chapter 3 (Boating and Water Sports) of the Arizona Revised Statutes: sections 5-301, 5-321, 5-322, 5-331, 5-332, 5-333, 5-334, 5-335, 5-336, 5-341, 5-343, 5-344, 5-345, 5-346, 5-347, 5-349, 5-350, 5-362, 5-371, 5-391, 5-395, 5-395.01, 5-395.03 and 5-397, read on the Arizona Legislature's site, https://www.azleg.gov/arsDetail/?title=5, on 2026-10-04. Each question names its section and links to it. The sections read name no required boating course, no operator card and no examination, so no question count or pass mark is stored here and the bank has no course or card group. Licence: Own work. Questions, answer choices and explanations were written for this site from the statute and rule text; nothing is copied from a boater handbook, a boating course, a course provider's study guide or another practice test.

How it works

Unofficial Arizona boating license practice test, state law only: questions written from Title 5, chapter 3 of the Arizona Revised Statutes. Navigation rules sit in a separate bank on this site. Read October 2026.

8 horsepower, age 12, sunset and 60 feet

Section 5-341 keeps a child under 12 off any motor above 8 horsepower unless a parent, guardian or someone 18 or older is on the watercraft. A child of 12 or under wears a life jacket whenever the boat is underway (5-331). Towing takes an observer with an orange or red flag and stops at sunset. Section 5-350 lists four personal watercraft acts, three of them inside 60 feet of another craft.

What the statutes say about a course or an exam

None of the 24 sections read for this bank names a required boating course, an operator card or an examination. So the law supplies no question count and no pass mark, and this page stores none.

  • Counterclockwise is the normal direction of traffic on Arizona waterways (section 5-345).
  • Two report deadlines: 48 hours after an injury, 5 days after damage over $500.

Questions and answers

Do you need a boating license in Arizona?

The statutes read for this bank, Title 5, chapter 3, name no operator license, card or required course. Their age rule is section 5-341: under 12, a motor above 8 horsepower takes a parent, guardian or someone 18 or older on the watercraft.

How many questions are on an Arizona boating exam, and what is the pass mark?

The statutes give neither, since they set up no examination. Exam mode here draws 25 questions because this site chose that length, and it shows no pass line.

At what age must a child wear a life jacket on a boat in Arizona?

Twelve or under, whenever the watercraft is underway, in a properly fitting wearable device (section 5-331). Everyone on a personal watercraft wears one at any age (5-350), and so does anyone being towed.

What is the alcohol limit for operating a boat in Arizona?

Section 5-395 sets 0.08 within two hours of operating a motorized watercraft that is underway, 0.04 on a commercial one, and also covers impairment to the slightest degree. Section 5-397 calls 0.15 or more extreme influence.

Is this an official Arizona boating test?

No. This is an independent study site, not a government one and not a course provider, and the Arizona Game and Fish Department has had no part in it. Each answer names its section. Navigation and boat handling topics are left out on purpose.
