How this list was compiled: Our own questions, short texts and drafts, written to the content lists of the three subtests in the PERT Study Guide published on the Florida Department of Education's site (https://www.fldoe.org/core/fileparse.php/5592/urlt/0078248-pert-studentstudyguide.pdf, read 2026-10-12): seven mathematics lines, ten reading lines and thirteen writing lines. The guide gives no share of a subtest for any line; mathematics holds 8, 3, 6, 3, 4, 3 and 3 questions over its seven lines, reading three to a line, and writing 4, 5, 3, 4, 5, 5 and 4 over seven topics that hold its lines. No mathematics question is on this site's PERT math page. Every mathematics answer was worked out a second time from the numbers the question prints. Every person and place in a reading text is made up, and each reading answer is read from the text printed with its question. Each rule of grammar, usage and style was read on 2026-10-12 in the page of the Purdue Online Writing Lab (owl.purdue.edu) that the question names. Test format (three subtests of 30 questions each, of which 25 count toward the placement score and 5 are field-test questions; untimed; computer adaptive; not pass or fail) from the department's page Demonstration of College Readiness (https://www.fldoe.org/schools/higher-ed/fl-college-system/academics/common-placement-testing.stml, read 2026-10-12) and the same study guide. Licence: Questions, texts, choices and explanations are original work of this site.

How it works

This printable PERT practice test has 90 questions of our own: 30 each in mathematics, reading and writing, like each real subtest. It is unofficial and not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by the Florida Department of Education.

What the real PERT exam is like

The department's page, read October 12, 2026, calls the PERT Florida's customized common placement test: untimed, computer adaptive, and given in public high schools and Florida College System institutions. Its study guide says you cannot change an answer after moving on or leave a question unanswered.

What is different here

Our questions come in a fixed order and do not adapt to your answers. Reading texts run a few sentences so they fit a phone screen. For algebra alone, the PERT math practice test holds 60 more questions, none repeated from this page.

  • Bring no calculator to the real test: a four-function one opens on screen for certain mathematics questions.
  • Scores are available as soon as you submit, the study guide says, and college testing centers can look them up.

Questions and answers

Is this a free printable PERT practice test?

Yes. The sheet at the top of this page holds 30 questions, ten from each subtest, and prints free with no sign-up. Tick the answer key to print the answers as well. Save as PDF in the print window keeps a copy.

How do you prepare for the PERT test?

Learn what each subtest asks: algebra in mathematics, passages in reading, and sentence and paragraph skills in writing. Work one subtest at a time, then go back over the questions you missed. The state's free study guide lists what each subtest covers.

How do you pass the PERT test?

You cannot pass or fail it, the department says. Florida's Rule 6A-10.0315 sets the scores for enrolling in college-level courses: 114 in mathematics, 106 in reading and 103 in writing. Below one, your college advises you on its developmental education options.

How many questions are on the PERT test?

Thirty on each of the three subtests, the study guide says. The department's page adds that 25 of them are the basis of your placement score and 5 are field-test questions.

Who has to take the PERT?

Not everyone. The department's page says a student who entered 9th grade in a Florida public school in 2003-04 or later and earned a standard Florida diploma is exempt, as is an active duty service member. Ask your college which applies to you.
