How it works
This Accuplacer algebra practice test has 60 questions of our own, spread over the ten content areas College Board lists for its Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra, and Statistics (QAS) test. It is unofficial and not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by College Board.

What the QAS test covers
College Board's test specifications, read October 7, 2026, list ten content areas. Ratio and proportional relationships is the largest, 15 to 20 percent of the test. Linear equations, and linear applications and graphs, take 10 to 20 percent each. The others are rational numbers, exponents, algebraic expressions, probability and sets, descriptive statistics and two geometry areas. This bank holds 10 ratio questions and 15 linear ones.
Elementary Algebra, the older test
The specifications name Elementary Algebra among five older Accuplacer tests that the redesigned tests replace. QAS is the redesigned test where expressions and linear equations start, so it is the nearest match for an Accuplacer practice test in elementary algebra.
Dividing an inequality by a negative number turns the sign around.
In a ratio question, find the whole before you take a part of it.
Parallel lines share a slope; perpendicular slopes multiply to −1.
Questions and answers
What kind of algebra is on the Accuplacer?
Two tests hold it. QAS has expressions, linear equations and inequalities, systems of two equations and line graphs. Advanced Algebra and Functions goes on to factoring, quadratics, functions, logarithms and trigonometry. Ask your college which test it gives.
How many questions are on the Accuplacer QAS test?
The specifications give 20 multiple-choice questions. There is no time limit, and the computer chooses each question from your answers so far. Exam mode on this page asks 20 questions and holds the answers until the end.
Is a calculator allowed on the Accuplacer algebra test?
Only the one on screen, and only on questions that show a calculator icon. College Board's test-day page says you may not bring a physical calculator or use a handheld one on any Accuplacer math test. An approved accommodation is the one exception.
What score do you need on the Accuplacer algebra test?
No score passes or fails. QAS reports a score from 200 to 300, and College Board says each college should set its own course placement scores. Your advising or testing office has the numbers for your courses.
