How this list was compiled: Our own questions, written to the eight selected-response competencies of the NYSTCE Field 072: Family and Consumer Sciences Test Design and Framework, September 2014 (https://www.nystce.nesinc.com/content/docs/NY_fld72_objs.pdf, read 2026-10-14): 0001 to 0006, each 11 of the 90 selected-response items, and 0007 and 0008, each 12. The bank holds 6 for each, 48 in all. Every fact was read on 2026-10-14 in the public page the question names: pages of the New York State Education Department, Department of Labor, Department of Health, Department of Environmental Conservation, Attorney General and Governor's Traffic Safety Committee, New York's Paid Family Leave site and its Consolidated Laws on the State Senate site, federal agency pages (CDC, FDA, USDA, NIH, HHS, FDIC, CFPB, EEOC, O*NET), and Wikipedia articles that carried no warning banner that day. How it works
Forty-eight original questions make up this NYSTCE Family and Consumer Sciences practice test, six for each competency CST (072) tests by selected response. It is unofficial: neither the New York State Education Department nor Pearson has any part in it.

What the real test asks
The framework of September 2014 gives 11 of the 90 selected-response items to each of its first six competencies and 12 each to consumer skills and to workplace skills, 80% of the score. One written response on teaching a topic carries the other 20%.
What this page covers
Fourteen of the 48 questions rest on New York's own laws and State pages: working papers and hours for minors, the security deposit and late fee limits, the Bottle Bill, the lemon law, Paid Family Leave, the CDOS credential. Against the clock the 48 run 72 minutes, as the framework's 90 run 135.
FCCLA belongs in your review: New York's Education Department calls it an integral part of FACS education.
Questions and answers
What does the NYSTCE Family and Consumer Sciences CST cover?
Eight competencies: nutrition, food and wellness; human development; family studies and parenting; interpersonal and family relationships and community connections; education and early childhood; textiles and design; consumer skills and resource management; workplace skills and careers. A ninth, pedagogical content knowledge, is the written response.
What is a passing score on the NYSTCE Family and Consumer Sciences test?
The test's page lists 520. That figure is on a scale, so the number you get right on this page does not turn into it, and the written response is not marked here.
How many questions are on the Family and Consumer Sciences CST?
Ninety selected-response items and one constructed-response item, the test's page says. They share 3 hours 15 minutes of testing time, which begins after 15 minutes for a tutorial and a nondisclosure agreement.
Is this the official NYSTCE Family and Consumer Sciences practice test?
No. The official materials are on the NYSTCE site, which publishes the framework and a study guide. Everything on this page was put together from public sources, and no item of the real test or of its sample questions was used.
